#3ds to imagine
7 messages in this thread
I was wondering if anybody knew of a good object conversion program to
convert 3D Studio objects to Imagine objects.
Thanks in advance,

P.S. A shareware or public domain program would be best.
Ted,
Check out World Render 3D. I believe it's in GRAPHDEV. Look for keyword WR3D.
It will convert about 10 common formats including 3DS, Imagine, Lightwave and
POV. It's pretty expensive for "shareware" though – $300.00
There are probably other cheaper options…I know you can port through DXF with
an inexpensive shareware program; Probably one out there somewhere to do it
native too.

Ted,
The best object conversion software I've seen so far is InterChange from
Syndesis Corp. It can convert between about 30 different formats, maintaining
hierarchies and object attributes when it can. IC is a commercial product, if
you'd like further information about it you can contact John Foust/Syndesis at

As for PD or shareware, there is no direct route. The closest you can come to
is 3DS->DXF->Imagine DXF import. Check out WC2POV.ZIP over in GRAPHDEV for a
windows utility.

thanks for the info I'll check into it

Andrey,
Finally! <g> I was hoping you would after reading this thread. <g> BTW, do
you now break up objects that would exceed Imagine's edge count limit? <please
say yes>

Yes, I read the initial message and my hands starting itching to finish the
program. But it's not the full-blown GUI, it's command-line. I just put
finishing touches on it, added some stuff, and wrote docs.

Uh, registered version does that. <g> And other stuff too… Check in the docs.
