We are researching new computers to run our 3DS. Does anyone know if 3DS will work with a Dual Pentium 120 system to render and model at the same time? Thanks John Hutchins

You're asking a question that I have asked time and time again, and I just recently managed to get an answer. You'll have to wait for Rel5, because only then will 3DS have access to true Windows NT multitasking, that will enable 3DS to make proper use of multiprocessor systems. I you were to buy a Dual Pentium now, you'd soon realize after setting up the system that you wasted a great deal of money on a computer that is using only half of its brain most of the time. I wanted to buy a Dual Pentium: it turns out buying two seperate systems would currently be the better alternative. BTW, I hope I'm not giving false information here: please, everybody, correct me if I'm wrong… -Phil

Hi James, << Does anyone know if 3DS will work with a Dual Pentium 120 system to render and model at the same time? >> 3DS R4 does not take advantage of multiple processors.

"a Dual Pentium 120 system" At this time the 120Mhz chip does not support multiprocessors in one machine, you will have to wait until the end of the year as far as I kow until those chips will be available, unless some motherboard manufacturers find a way around it. It seems this technology is only build in in P100 and lower at this time. 3DS will only work with dual systems when the NT version will come out, end of year, begin next year. Mysself I'm also waiting for that for a new PC, I will wait until sept. Oct.

James, I bought 4 dual Pentium 100 motherboards with only one CPU for now. The cost compared to a single CPU motherboard was only about $300 more. I figured if 3ds ever makes use of dual CPU's I can get a quick injection of speed without spending a lot more money (the cost of one CPU, maybe $500-$700). If it never becomes a viable motherboard combo then I only wasted $300 per machine.

I decieded to skip the p5 and bought an ALPHA233. Now all I have to do is waite to see if R5 supports it. Will
