#LJ4SiMx Tray Selection
3 messages in this thread
Alex,
It's NOT a bug in 2.1.1 or 2.1.2. The driver must be set to MIXED BINS. Then
it works. But this is a big secret <g>.
Doesn't your NDA preclude mentioning your beta test involvement? (Mine does.)

Hello Dick,
Yea i know that you can set it to mixed bins, and if you lock a tray
it should work, but i would call this a "workaround". I never got it to
work without locking a tray in add. to set mixed bins. And have you
also tried multiple copies? I experienced the problem that the first
copy it works well, but for the following it doesn't.
Oh, i have also tested this with an 4MV and an 500 Sheet tray and
it doesn't work at all even when mixed bins is set and one tray is
locked.
Greetings,
Alex

Hi again. For whatever reason, in PostScript it seems that one cannot have
both automatic bin selection based on size and specific bin selection based on
bin number in the same job stream. This may be a PS language limitation–at
first, PS could only pick by bin number which was not acceptable for multiple
paper source network printers (how does a remote user know which bin has the
legal size paper?). So this was grafted on later.
So the driver seems to need to set the printer up for what may come later
on in the job stream.
I think the "fix" has been identified and will show up in new
products–this is to be able to classify the paper in each bin by type as well
as size (e.g., Letterhead, plain, punched) so that it can be chosen by type
rather than having to know which bin number. Much better, IMO.
