My company just purchased an HP4MV for use as a workgroup printer for Technical Publications. The software we use, FrameMaker 4.0 for Windows doesn't seem to like the Adobe 2.1.1 driver that we got with the printer. We use .eps, .tif, and .dxf graphics extensively, and also need the 11 X 17 capability of the printer (that's why we chose it!). Is there another driver we can use with FM4 that will give us the features and speed of the 4MV without the compatibility problems we're experiencing with the Adobeps.drv? Thanks in advance. <Chas> "Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read." — Groucho Marx.

You can certainly use Microsoft's Postscript 3.58, but you will lose Level 2 features and some printer-specific control. I've printed quite well with this driver from FrameMaker 4, although I have always found that sticking to EPS format for graphics whenever possible and using bitmaps only as small embedded objects causes the fewest problems.

Jack, Yeah, it seems that the printer specific feature that I lose (and need desperately) is the ability to print 11 X 17. :-{ Still looking for a better solution. <Chas> Good, Fast, Cheap. Pick 2

There will be a revised Postscript driver sometime this summer, and they are still working on the WIN95 one.
