#1200 DPI on LJ4 ?
5 messages in this thread
I think I have heard on add-on boards for the HP LJ4M that increases the DPI
from 600 * 600 to 1200 * 1200? I need every DPI I can get out of the printer
for B&W photo printouts (from my Scanjet 3c, what a wonderful scanner!). Do you
know were to start searching ?
Anyone with experience of such a 1200 DPI board?

I have no personal experience, but several people have mentioned LaserMaster

I get 1200X1200 out of a Laserjet II, so, yes, it's possible. I use the
LaserMaster Truetech boards. LM is the best one to check on this.
Laserpix is another you might see advertised. Its output is stunning but its
printer drivers are totally proprietary and its board is expensive; thus, if
you, say, are waiting for a WIN95 upgrade or something, it means your
investment is totally wrapped up in their board and decisions. LaserMaster has
supported every upgrade within weeks of release.
Jack,
I thought the highest DPI for LJII's and III's with WinPrint from LaserMaster
was 800 DPI and to get 1200 DPI you had to have a LJ4?
You're getting 1200 DPI with a LJII? How long have you had this setup?

It's easy to do, but I'm not using a WinPrinter, for which your figures are
correct. I'm using a Truetech board, which is a professional level product (40
megs and a 68020 on board! Kind of a Mac on an ISA board…) and priced
accordingly. Even then, you're right, the best I can get MECHANICALLY is 1000
dpi; the other 200 dpi come from LaserMaster's resolution enhancement.
