#Can't run 3DS w SCSI

Dear all,
I found a strange problem running 3DS after I have added a Buslogic BT946c SCSI
controller & a 1gb HDD to my system, & run 3DS form this SCSI HDD. 3DS just
refuse to run if I plugged the BT946 in the PCi slot 1 & using I/O port 330,
Irq 11. It just report a serious disk error occurred & the system crashed,
However, 3DS
works fine when I moved the SCSI card to slot 2 & using I/O port 334, any Irq.
&
I'm sure that no other cards on my system are using I/O 330. Alhough I can
slove
the problem now, I still want to know why this happened.
Can any guru enlighten me on this?

I have the BT946c using port 330, Irq 11, and have had no trouble with 3DS
using my Seagate 2GB SCSI drive. I can't remember which PCI slot the SCSI card
is in, though. The slot shouldn't matter.

Tht's the weird problem I met…
3DS can only run in one slot in my machine!??

Make sure you are loading the Buslogic drivers from your config.sys at startup.
3DS will use a swap drive and Buslogic
needs a driver for this. you can burn your drive without the driver!

I have already load the driver no matter which slot I plug my BT946c.
Just wondering why 3DS can only run properly when the BT946c is in

Even PCI SCSI cards put their BIOS in upper memory .. unfortunately
. it is hard to control where it is going (isn't it wonderful having all of
this "smart" technology … pueii). It's basically up to the motherboard how
much control you have. To determine if it is a SCSI BIOS problem, try the
folllowing:
From your original message, this is an add-on to the original system. I would
assume that you then have an IDE boot-disk. If so
. Great! Disable the SCSI BIOS on the card and drive the HDD thru ASPI. I'm
not sure how you do this on a Bus-Logic .. but on an adaptec, you run
ASPI?DOS.SYS and then ASPIDISK.SYS in your CONFIG.SYS. Actually, unless you
are booting from the SCSI drive, using the BIOS might not be buying you
anything. (Actually, under some tests with the Targa2k, I've gotten better
performance using ASPI rather than the BIOS).
Try that. If the problem goes away and you don't need the BIOS services ..
then its solved. If you need the BIOS for some reason or another, then you will
have to address the upper memory problem and you will have to use your MB's
CMOS to try to controll where the card is going and then exclude from 3DS by
using EMM386 or QEMM.
If this doesn't fix it, then I'd look again to the I/O and IRQ.

I c, so it would be the memory addr problem. Okay, will try that later & tell u
the result. BTW, I'm now using the SCSI as the booting controller & remove any
IDE device from my computer. &, I can't find from the Buslogic manual telling
how to disable the BIOS on the card… 🙁

I've talked to tech support in the past was able to get through in a very short
time
and they've always been very helpful.

So u suggest it would be the problem of Buslogic… Sure I will dial
in their BBS to see what will come up. Can't afford the long

I didn't really catch the entire thread, It just looked as if you
were trying to get in touch with the Bus Logic Folks. I didn't
really catch more than that. However if your having problems with
your system setup I do know that the BusLogic card runs a a specific
address on my machine and I have to have it's address excluded from
my memory managment software which happens to be QEMM. Works like a
charm but not if I don't exclude that address…….<BG> Murph'
