Ani Studio Can't Save

I installed Animator Studio Pro under Windows-95 Beta. I can load animations and play them, but if I try to save as FLC files I get the error: OLE Exception: Facility: 4, Error 0x4065 Saving AVI seems to work OK. I realize there can be no guarantees of performance on a Beta platform, but I'm hoping someone might have a clue what this message means. Jim Hawkins

Oh ! Oh ! I just ordered mine tonite and I use Win95 Preview ! So you can't save fli under Win95. I hope it will be easily fix by Adesk people. It doesn't sound a very complex problem. I'll continue to check on that, have a good day, Pierre Montreal

Pierre, Please let me know how you make out with Animator Studio on Windows-95. If I find a solution, I will let you know. I actually installed Windows 3.1 on the same machine and setup Animator Studio under it and there's no problem. Installing Windows 3.1 on the same machine was a little tricky. Had to use the LOCK command to UNPROTECT both of my hard drives from long filename corruption during the installation. I deleted the Windows 3.1 filemanager to eliminate the ability to delete files with long filenames from Windows 3.1 which would probably corrupt the disk. I would rather find out why Animator Studio doesn't save FLIC files under WIndows-95. Maybe you have a later beta version of Windows-95 and it will work OK. In the mean time I will just have to run Win3.1 for Animator studio. I wouldn't necessarily suggest you try the same thing. I feel there may be some risk. In order to start Win3.1, I have to boot up in DOS mode first. Jim Hawkins

Thanks for your fast reply, After reading your message in Ani Forum I try to make fli files with program that I already have. In fact I try to convert an .avi files to an .flc file. For that I use Razor (non-pro version) and I got a General Protection Fault caused by flifile.dll. Maybe the problem is not specifically with Animator Studio but with fli or flc format in all programs. I guess Autodesk will put some guys full time on that ! I will wait until I got my Animator Studio version and I hope that there will be a better solution than try to made a complex dual boot in Win3.1. If Ani can make tga serial files, I think I will assemble them with Videopost in 3dsR4. It can be a temporary fix. Have a good day, Pierre

Pierre, There certainly is a certain amount of risk running Windows 3.1 on top of DOS 7. I wouldn't recommend it to everyone. In the mean time, if you look around this forum, there are numerous cries for this problem with Windows-95 and Windows-NT. IT locks up on Windows-NT. It seems to me that it would be in Autodesks interest as well as its users (especially the ones that upgrade 3D Studio to the NT version) to supply an upgrade to Animator Studio without cost. As far as I'm concerned, it's a bug. I'm quite satisfied with 3D Studio R4, so, unless I have some assurance that Animator Studio will work under NT AND my investment in IPAS won't go down the tubes, I won't bother to upgrade 3D Studio until the problems are resolved. Hi Jim, I configure my machine yesterday for a dual boot in Win 3.1 or Win95. So I will be able to use Animator Studio when I will receive it. By the way I will also be able to use Kai Power Tools with Photoshop in the Win 3.1 environnement, there is a bug in that one concerning the 32 bits cache. Strangely Adesk doesn't response clearly on that subject. Will it be an upgrade in time for Win 95, what is the real nature of the bug, is it a big problem or a small one ? Have a good day, Pierre

Jim, << I'm quite satisfied with 3D Studio R4, so, unless I have some assurance that Animator Studio will work under NT AND my investment in IPAS won't go down the tubes, I won't bother to upgrade 3D Studio until the problems are resolved. >> Already some IPAS developers have said that they will provide reasonbly priced upgrades to NT.
