Internet is an online network through Universities. You can read messages from others and leave messages of your own. There are many areas of interest like here on CIS. If you can get an account through school then it is free. Otherwise you'll have to find someone to give you access which could cost money. The Internet button in AP is so you can send mail to other people who have an account on the net. You must know there Internet mail address before sending it obviously.

The INTERNET button is for writing messages to people who are accessed through the CompuServe INTERNET gateway. That is – you can send and receive mail from anyone in the world with an Internet address through CIS mail. If you receive a message from someone, you can reply to it as you would any other Email, but if you originate a message that is to go through the Internet, you click on that button, compose your message, and when you select SAVE, it brings up a list of the Internet addresses you have in your address book. —Betty

Daniel … the Internet is a big communications system that links computers all over the world together. Many of the computers on the Internet are academic institutions, but there are others too. CompuServe has the ability to send electronic mail to these other systems, provided that you know their address. For instance, I use a system in London called CIX (Compulink Information eXchange), and it is connected to the Internet. I can send myself mail on CIX through CompuServe by using the email address: >INTERNET:miketodd@cix.compulink.co.uk … AP has a button which is a shorthand way of accessing this mail facility. Unless you actually know someone on a computer addressable through Internet, then you are not likely to find a use for it. CompuServe is very limited in the access it gives you to Internet .. only mail. However, other systems (like CIX) can use the network to browse directories on remote computers, download files and use specialise online facilities. For instance, I just used CIX's Internet facility to research some medical book titles through the Thomas Jefferson University in the US, for the cost of a London phone call plus normal connect charges on CIX.
