Hi Gayle,
Have you received you 3D Artist yet ? I haven't and I'm (very quickly) loosing
my patience with these people. I've had a tough week as it is … I'm trying
to keep it together enough not to make a fool of my myself with a maniacal call
to the
distributor or publisher or whoever is culpable ! Thanks for letting me vent
:).
Howz the "meeting preview" coming along. I was hoping to start getting stuff
for the newsletter together by this weeks end and have it to Paul L. by
mid-to-late week (next week) for mailing. Call it a hunch, but I think I'm
gonna have to shake a few people down – the one's who promised to help write
something at the meeting. You can just E-mail me your contribution if you
like.

Don't fret too much, I haven't seen mine yet either. And I know people in
Chicago "proper" who got it over a week ago. The issues take a strange and
complex mailing route.
It's worth the wait, though. Believe me when I tell you that the people at 3D
Artist (Bill, Sally, etc.) really bust their butt on this stuff. For the price
you just can't get better, higher quality 3D info from *any* source.
Even if Bill dropped them out of an airplane on little individual parachutes I
wouldn't complain. <g>

Gee… I received 2 issues of 3d Artist in the last 5 weeks or so. It was the
first shipment for some time……..

I realize that…your're right… I should probably just refer you to the
latest message I sent to Gayle – I said my "pennance" to her already. I was
having a bad week and a particularly bad day, so I was just blowing of a little
steam. I certainly didn't want to trigger a "Pennello-esque" cascade of
responses….35 messages all tearing my head off !<g>

I wouldn't complain. << Great visual ! I see it as one of those World War II
propoganda cartoons where the entire sky is filled with 3DA's floating down
into the streets. Maybe that could be their new ad campaign ? <g>

:-O Oh, don't be mean to Bill and Sally, they're really nice people. I
haven't gotten my 3DA yet either. Remember it's a miniscule operation that, I
think, has been taken by surprise by it's own success. They are switching over
to new computer systems, or something. I was really hoping they would have the
July issue out by SIGGRAPH – it would sure help my freelance efforts to have a
big article, and maybe the cover of that issue! (I hope to hear from them soon
on the cover).

Preview of things to come:
Next meeting, scheduled for 6:30 PM, Tuesday, June 13th marks the one year
anniversary of the inception of the Loop group – LET'S PARTY! Shall I bake a
cake? Call Gary to volunteer your potluck contributions! The scheduled main
event is Paul Lempke's presentation of Autodesk's Animator Studio, and we hope
to pick up our long-awaited copies at the meeting. Studio is Adesk's 24-bit
multimedia-and-paint program for Windows. Also scheduled, a video
Show-and-Tell by Margaret Garrity and Paul Hormiss (or is that "No-Show and
Tell" NO DON"T PUT THAT IN, GAry, it was for your chuckles, only); this is a
sales-oriented video done by Scene Scenes for Rand McNally, loosely based on
Dire Straits "Money for Nothing". As usual, all are encouraged to bring their
work and questions. This anniversary meeting will be mediated my myself and
Kirk Nash.
"Loop Group Luminaries":
News Flash – "New Riders Publishing opens Midwest office to accomodate prolific
authors of the Chicago 3D Studio Loop Group!" Well, not quite yet, folks, but
I wouldn't be surprised. Another star is rising 🙂 … Kirk Nash is the
latest in our illustrious collection of 3D authors. Kirk is writing two
chapters for "3D Studio Hollywood and Video Special Effects", the second book
in the series of "3D Studio Special Effects". Kirk will do chapters on
particle animation, and on integrating computer-created objects and sets with
video characters. Good thing Kirk never sleeps, because they're shooting for
publication in time for SIGGRAPH! Our other Loop group authors are Steven
Elliott, "Inside 3D Studio", and Heinz Schuller, "Kai's Power Tools".
OK Gary, do I owe you anything else? DON'T put in that "No-Show" comment! But
if he craps out again, that's it, no mercy! Actually Margaret will be doing the
presenting, anyway.
Cross your fingers for me about the 3D Artist cover… gee, if I get it, does
that mean I'm a "real" artist? :-).

Aww Gee! I am truely honored that you still think of me as a member of the
"Loop Group". I'll have to fly back and pick up my long distance member award
one of these days 🙂

you get the idea
and you expect me not to milk your brief but memorable participation in the
Loop Group for all it's worth! C'mon!

Sorry for "popping off" about 3DA…and apologies to all who bore the brunt of
my wrath that day. You know something…I probably wouldn't have even thought
about it that day if I didn't post the message to you ? Does that mean you're
to blame ? 🙂 Naw!! I take full responsibility for my little outburst. It
just a bad personal moment in a very bad week. In fact, the next day – and in
a much calmer mood – I called the fine folks at 3DA and they were both tactful
and understanding of my plight.

Yeah, and we all get to brag about how we knew you when…! 🙂 Keepin' 'em
crossed for you. Do you think that we should start a "pool" on who'll be the

That's it, I'm just going to die of mortification, my face is NTSC-illegal red
with a bad case of chroma crawl, I must sound like a complete ass. I _thought_
I responded to your note from my nifty new internet account, where I've been
spending all my time the last couple of days. That response was absolutely for
your eyes only. It will serve me right if BA et al don't like my images _at
all_. I hope anyone who read this mistaken post will understand I was just
confiding hopes in a local 3D friend. 🙁
