#Startnet Problem
9 messages in this thread
To anyone that can help:
When I try to logon to compuserve/ppp using startnet, it dials the phone then
after the requester comes up and I click ok it tells me:
WaitForPort: Unknown command
WaitForPort failed returncode 10
I tried to comment it out but now it gives me more problems. Could someone a
working startnet so i can see if mine is the same.

The Problem is startnet can't find the program WaitForPort. I had the same
problem at first. I got out the old AmigaDos manual and it's an ARexx program
(command). Anyway, if yoiu don't have Arexx installed, install it and have it
run at startup. You may have to alter the startnet script to the exact path of
WaitForPort (i.e. sys:Arexx/WaitForPort). I simply made a copy of WaitForPort
and put it in my C: directory.
Hope this helps

Thanks That worked great. But now im getting this message that reads:
$ppp0: bad value add host 199.174.154.17: gateway 127.0.0.1 add net default:
gateway 149.174.212.35: Network is unreachable
Any clues ?
Thanks again

Hmm,
I'm afraid I can't help you there….AmigaDos things I'm OK. Networks things
I'm just learning. I'll tell you how I got mine running though. If it hasn't
scrolled off yet, get message #192384 I followed the instructions in that
message and got my system up and running. It doesn't use a dialup-script, but
once you get you're system up, it's easy enough to make one.
I'll take a guess at you're problem though…your IP numbers are totally
different than mine. But this is only a guess as I have no idea how the
PPP/amiTCP actually uses those numbers or negotiates a connection
I just thought of something….I *might* have that message saved…If I do,
I'll send it to you…If not, well hopefully it's still online.

Donald;
Send your startnet script and your PPP0.config file and I'll add my 2 cents.

Thanks Hank,
I can now seem to logon tothe internet (PPP) but after runnung
Amosaic it will say somehting like "Looking for http://www.compuserve.com" and
then nothing. It even seems to hang the system for a short time. I did the
install from the readme file it seemed ok.
any Ideas ?

Don;
Are you using the Domain Name Servers whose IP addresses CIS gave you? Do you
have the domain names and IP addresses of all the sites you wnt to access in
your AmiTCP/db/hosts file?
My set-up works best without the nameserver-I have listed every site I want to
access, including a couple of "http" sites (for AMosaic) in my hosts file as I
mention above. I have been able to access: "http://insti.physics.sunysb.edu"
and "http//:max.physics.sunysb.edu" with AMosaic.
Hank
Don,
Just a suggestion:
>>$ppp0: bad value add host 199.174.154.17: gateway 127.0.0.1 add net default:
gateway 149.174.212.35: Network is unreachable <<
In my startnet script there are variables called $ppp0local and $ppp0remote,
but not $ppp0. See if there's an extra space, or something.
My startnet script does have the line
AmiTCP:bin/ifconfig ppp0 $ppp0iplocal $ppp0ipremote
in it, so maybe something else internally uses a variable called $ppp0, but I
would have thought that the ppp0 in that line refers to the device.
Good luck!

Don,
I had the same problem. The answer is to make sure that your shell-startup
script has a Path command pointing to all of your command pathways so that the
shell can find the commands that are being asked for.
ie. My shell-startup script is as follows:
Path >NIL: RAM: C: SYS:RexxC SYS:XtraC AMITCP: AMITCP:bin SYS:Utilities…..
………..SYS:System S: SYS:Prefs SYS:WBStartup SYS:Tools ADD ALIAS del delete
ALIAS ns newshell ALIAS es endshell ALIAS List nl -gb -F "%25n %7s %27d %8p %N"
-df "%8M-%2d-%2y @ %02h:%02n:%02s" ALIAS Cp Copy [] Clone
PROMPT "%S> "
You will notice that the Path statement directs the shell to search first in
RAM: then C: etc. to find the commands that it needs. I have a RexxC directory
for my ARexx commands; this is where I have WaitForPort. Mostof the other
directories are a direct copy from my startup-sequence file Path statement.
Hope this helps.:)
