#1600×1200 24 bit color

Just received a new board, it's the OMNICOMP Alamo. Runs 1600×1200 24 bit
color! Retail under $3000! Based on 34020, 40MHz. Comes with windows
drivers and great AutoCAD/3DS drivers. Also runs 1280×1024, 1024×768,
800×600, and 640×480 all in 24 bit color. Board has 8 meg of vram, up to 8
meg of dram (1 is standard, but we quickly pulled out the simm, and put in
a 4 meg, pulldowns are alot faster).

Jack, what kind of monitor will sync up to 1600 lines? Will a NEC 6FG do
that?

I've got a Taxan 1150 (+/-) 21" in the office that will do 1600 x 1200
with a flat screen – awsome! Starts at plain ol' VGA.
Gets such a big range by doing bands around all popular resolutions: i.e. it
won't sync at 700×5??, but it does 640×480 and 800×600 just fine!

Reach around under the right side of the monitor. Feel the metal box like
thing? Press it up. Click. Now look – a nice set of adjustments. I
don't know if you can adjust for the odd resolutions, but you ought to be
able to.

Thanks for the info, but I believe the specs for the monitor state that it
only works in chunks to give it such a huge range.
But I've never found a card it wouldn't support! I guess what I was trying
to say is that it covers any relatively standard card out there, from:
640×480
800×600
1024×768
1150×900
1280×1024
1600×1200
Who needs more? And a flat screen besides!

I was doing something we here call "pulling-a-Bou" – speaking without
knowing what I was talking about, but acting like I know everything…
Really, I never knew the 6FG could do 135MHz.. (RTFM – if I had one)…

Idek has a 21" that will do 1600×1280. Retail is about $3300 (that's
suggested retail)(I think) and dot pitch is .28. Flat of course.

Check your numbers. It's 0.28 mm. Idek uses a standard flat square tube.
I won't go so far as to say 0.21 is impossible, but I've never seen it used
in a standard monitor. (Possibly a 2K monitor. Hitachi has one.)

Well, we're both wrong, but your more right than I was. For the first
time, I actually looked at the 5421-A manual (RTFM<g>) it says .26mm.

We use nothing here but IDEK iiyama 5421-A. 21", sync's to everything you
can throw at it (except EGA – no digital <g>). At the trade shows, we
generally only use them. At AEC in Dallas, we had an older OMNICOMP board
running on one of the machines, 1600×1200 256 colors.
All I can say was that I did some renders, took a awhile, but the results
were soooo nice!
By the way, Pixelworks makes a 2048×2048 board. Only 256 colors, but I bet
the military and the FAA love it. Now the monitors cost around 40k, but
the the taxpayers have DEEP pockets…

It all depends on what the defination of "Too expensive" is. Since the
monitors are $40,000, what is "too expensive" to charge for the board? <BG>

Omnicomp is an OEM manufacturer. Essentially, they don't work with CAD or
multimedia dealers. Good products – lousy distribution and marketing.

Thats mainly true. It's really amazing how many custom boards they
produce.
When we went to their office, they show us all kinds of really neat stuff
that you never hear about…

They've tried to figure out how to work with dealers before… but have
been unable get anything going. Therefore they're now trying to go direct.
Most of the dealers that they tried to do business with told them that they
were an unknown company with an unproven product. Therefore the dealer
didn't want to risk their own reputation with the customer.
We think that they are a solid company with a significant commitment to
P.C. Graphics. 95% of their current sales are OEM, around 20mil+-. which
is bigger than most of the BIG names in CAD graphics. <g>
