I have a Vortex GoldenGate 386 board and I have been trying to find a
disk contro ler chip [82077AA]. Does any one know where I can get
one of these. No-one in my area even has a listing for them.
Thanks.

You have to get them done by vortex. I don't think you can install it
yourself — as I remember, it has to be done by vortex, preferably
when you first buy the board. Call GMR Productions (assuming you're
in the U.S.). They're the US rep for vortex (I think they still are).

Not according to the user's manual. Page 51, section 3.7 Upgrading with a
82077AA Floppy Disk Controller. " …..Golden Gate can be upgraded with an own
floppy disk contoller. This is the component 82077AA in the PLCC68 package
(vortex order No.:8364). The GG PCB provides a corresponding PLCC68 socket and
suitable connections for the floppy disk drives (one internal and one
external). …."
John, call GMR like Marion said to see if they carry that part number or
package (When and if you do get one let me know, I have been toying with the
idea installing one myself, the emulated HD floppy is sooo slooow).
Good luck,
David
