I'm not sure that Escom will get parts at less than a premium — I can't see
them commiting to the volumes that Commodore had…

In hindsight, I suppose you are right. However, if the do take the
time to use a standard PC chassis, they could conceivably save some
money without compromising quality.
Don't forget non-standard power supply (tick signal), floppy drives
(different electronics), etc. The connectors on an Amiga will make
using a standard casework tough in any event, and will certainly
require a new board layout, something which will be expensive and
time consuming to set up, do, test, and put into production.
