I received 4.03 last Thursday and installed it today. Hooray!!! That,
however is not the good news. Using Diavolo Backup and a 2gig DAT tape drive
attached to my Warp Engine scsi port, I reached backup speeds of up to 5.8
Mb/Min. The secret was found in the Toaster Manual. USE NO COMPRESSION WHEN
BACKING UP YOUR CLIPS. When I used the default compression for Diavolo I was
getting around 4800 Kb/Min backup speeds and the compression was only about 3%.
It really pays to RTFM.

You had best check the quality of flyer clips after restoring them. When you
backup via Amiga DOS and NOT through the Flyer backup routine nasty things can
happen. I noticed significant degredation when backing up Flyer clips with
AmiBack to our Exabyte.

After reading your response to my "Good News", I restored a clip to a
different drive, double clicked on each of them in turn and used the spacebar
to switch from one to the other. Result was what I had hoped it would be, the
clips were identical. I don't know if the fact I was using Diavolo has
anything to do wiyth it, but this clip backed up at 5.8Mb/Min and restored at
5.4Mb/Min. Oh yes, there was sound, it was video of a young woman playing the
flute.

Pardon me for jumping in here…
I saw the Diavolo info in another thread. I have Amiback, but no SCSI except
for the Flyer. Can I use Diavolo (or AmiBack) with my DAT hooked up to the
SCSI3 on the Flyer?

From what I understand, there are problems with things not directly Flyer
related being hooked up to the Flyer scsi ports. I think you might be better
off using the NewTek supplied backup software.

I've used quarterback hooked to the GVP SCSI external from my accelerateor
card.
I don't think it is going to make a difference where you hook the tape drive
just so long as it can 'see' the drives it is going to back up.
