#Left Amiga M function

Though I imagine you are aware of this, just in case you're not, the left
Amiga-M key function does not return to the workbench screen from the Toaster
switcher screen. Since I use a TBC that is software controlled, it's important
that I access the TBC screen. The left Amiga-M function does work from
Toasterpaint and Lightwave, but unfortunately going to these programs also
switches away from input 1 where I am feeding in the video signal. Do you know
if something is being done on this? Thanks.

PMFJIH, but I have 4.03 and the Left-Amiga-M combo works just fine from the
switcher screen. There is however a bug that relates to DPS's software and 4.03
Flyer software that can cause anomolies. I have found that by using an earlier
version of the DPS TBC software, I can avoid most of them. I usually set
switcher to the appropriate input, Left-Amiga-M out to workbench, run the tbc
software, set my adjustments, then quit the tbc software (saving the settings
in one of the ten preset memories first) then Left-Amiga-M back to the
switcher. All tbc settings remain in effect until you run the tbc software
again or reboot the Amiga.
I have found that if I leave the TBC software running when you return to the
switcher, there is a conflict becuase both programs are fighting for the use of
the Right-Amiga key combo. Flyer wants to use it for the display names option,
and TBCIV softaware wants to use it for freeze frames. I have gotten around the
issue of freeze frames two ways:
1. Use the TBC remote from DPS
2. Use Tpaint to grab the appropriate frame or field from the clip I am working
with in the project. Before you load the clip you want to process, just open
the control panel for the clip, move the in or out point slider to the place
where you want the freeze frame to occur, then either remember the number of
the frame that is displayed or click your mouse into the in/out display that
you want the info from. By clicking into the in/out display you "capture" the
text info. Supposedly there is a way to paste that info into another field, but
I don't recall the keyboard shortcut (it's in the 4.0 docs somewhere).

Hopefully Newtek and DPS will communicate with each other about this bug and
get all of us back to work without so many "work arounds".

Thanks for the advice. I'm using Feral effects TBC and I'm able to access its
control screen from Toaster paint and C.G. but not from the Toaster switcher
screen. I'm using 4.03, but am unable to get back to the workbench screen from
the switcher screen even when I don't have the TBC software turned on. Perhaps
I've got a bug in my version of 4.03, which I down-loaded from Newtek's FTP
site. I also believe I saw on one of the posts, that instead of using the
update command (which I intially did) you are supposed to reinstall alll the
software. I might try this and see if it makes a difference.

I heard at NAB that future versions of the Flyer/Switcher would allow
Amiga-M jumps to Workbench. After all these years/versions, they finally
fixed it, I thought. Perhaps you're seeing this in action.

Flyer/toaster 4.x software does use the standard left-Amiga M and N key combos
for screen flipping. In versions 3.5 and earlier, the key sequence ctrl, ctrl,
left alt, left alt, tapped in rapid succession (like Dorothy clicking her heels
with those ruby slippers) will take the user to and from the Workbench screen.
Again, tap tap on CTRL followed tap tap on Lt Alt.
Actually, it occurs to me, if you already have a Flyer and the left amiga
keystroke is not swapping your screens, you have some problem with your
software installation or your system, as the feature is consistently working
here on all systems (in my typical paranoid fashion I just checked this out on
several machines, A2000 and A4000, in the Tech area. They worked.)
At the moment, I have no suggestion for a possible cause, and no solution other
than try re-installing.
I tried reinstalling software, but it still did not work. Could this be
affected by the use of a Warp Engine and Emplant software?
I know Warp Enging will not cause that, Emplant however I can not say…

You're right- Warp Engine has nothing to do with it and it seems neither does
Emplant. For some reason, I discovered that I have to push both Amiga keys with
the M or N keys and then it goes to workbench to my TBC screen. Maybe it's just
a wierd connection in my keyboard. Thanks anyway

What happens before you run the Toaster/Flyer. Dose the single Aimga key-M
work then? It sounds real wierd, but heck if it works, it works…

I don't think so, unless something is not properly configured in one or the
other. We have flyer owners who have both in a system working successfully
along side the Flyer.

I got the problem resolved. In order to make it work I need to push both Amiga
keys simultaneously and then hit the M key. Go figure. Thanks for your help,
though. My toast is flying these days.
That is really peculiar. I'll try double-keying around here on some machines.
Meantime, could you download diags.lha from our BBS at 913-271-9299, and run
the keyboard matrix test to see if your keyboard circuitry is OK? It may have
nothing to do with what is going on, but….

In Toaster 4.x The Amiga-M key should take you to the NEXT screen avalible.
The Amiga-N key will take you directlt to the Workbench.
If your are using Toaster 3.1 or earlier, to get to your other screens it
Ctrl, Ctrl, Alt, Alt. In other words hit the Ctrl button twice then hit the Alt
button twice.
