#Sony SLV R1000

I've been using a Sony SLV R1000 since about August.
I've been using it with Video Director and Studio Magic on the computer and a
Hi-8 camcorder.
It's got a nice assortment of ins and outs on the back.
The output is steadier than my camcorder as evidenced by the lack of movement
with overlayed titles.
I also use it for off the air recordings and it's recordings of laser disks are
very close to the original.
As for quality, the slower speed recordings seem to jump often but not the SP
recordings and the last month I started to get a belt slapping sound I need to
get fixed.
I'm not a electronic techie and not a professional. I picked it up locally
cause it was on sale. We're not talking major research here

Ken,
I looked into using your exact setup. How does the Video Director and Studio
Magic work together? Wasn't SM coming out with a version which controlled
consumer decks such as the SLV-R1000? I even heard they were going out of
business…? I have no experience with video editing and want to try it out.
My dream system would be Video Machine from Fast but that is way out of my
budget. Any input would be appreciated.

In a nutshell I would recommend you consider the course I took with GVP's
Personal Suite Plus and PrimeTime. Call Gary at Electronic Mailbox and
discuss these options … he helped me. While they last he's got this
excellent package that is probably just what you're looking for function and
price-wise. $499. Components are VD, Curtain Call, PrimeTime and Magni's

I got the Studio Magic card when they first came out. Probably a mistake.
Some of the functions promised don't work (such as aniamtion overlays), the
event list was bugging (needs an event every 1:10 or skips to next, if you type
the time wrong you get a GF), seems to conflict with interrupts sometimes.
I sent them a letter a while ago asking about fixes and the promised VCR
controller (two inputs and one out). I received a phone call asking about my
problems and talking about software fixes and hardware upgrades. Nice
man….but…
I haven't hear or seen anything since.
So I also ask if they are going out of business and I should write the Studio
Magic board I have now off as a learning experience.

Ken, re: Studio Magic… Just as I suspected. I called them again also and
they still say VCR controller will be available in 60 days. Same answer they
gave me before last Christmas. I'm also writing them off. Thanks for the
input.

Thats so funny- They told me "60 days" last April, almost 13 months ago. At
that time I could wait 60 days. I am sure glad I didn.t!
