#DPS/Perception/RAZOR?

Has anyone heard of a company called Digital Processing Systems? Supposedly
they plan to release in July a NLE system that includes the boards and the
software (called Perception/Razor?) for $2000-2500. It is going to run on
WindowsNT systems and reportedly be capable of D-1 broadcast quality. I heard
about it from Mike Bushey at Bushey Virtual Construction, who seemed to feel
that it was going to "up the ante" . I was wanting to get a second opinion, if
it is available.

The Perception is going to be a PCI based Playback board (with the optional
real-time video capture daughtercard it is also a recorder) with composite,
component, and S-video outputs and (optionally) inputs. They say that their
10bit, 2x oversampled video encoding will provide >60db bandwidth video for
very crisp, detailed video. It works under Windows NT so you can really throw
some horsepower at the effects rendering engine, be it Razor or Adobe Premiere
or Media Vision, etc. It will use high speed SCSI II A/V drives like the
Seagate Barracuda series and in its higher quality modes will give you about 4
minutes per GB. Audio will have to be handled by a seperate audio board.
DPS's PAR is very popular, and deservedly, and this is the next generation…

I currently have the PAR/TBCIV combination by DPS for captureing
video. Its about the best under 10K system you can get.. Only
problem is there is no real time rendering of transitions or effects
beacuse they are all done thru software. So the bigger the PC the
faster it will go. Minium RAM should be about 32 Meg to edit with.
The cost will really be about 3500. 2200 for the output board and
1300 for the video capture piggy back board. Hope this helps Bob
