#Converting to AVI
5 messages in this thread
Hello All!
I just invested several thousand bucks into a power mac and guess what.
I need to convert Quick time to AVI. Is there any good software out there?
Please E-mail or post for all.
Brian,
For conversion between AVI and MOV you could get a copy of the book
"How to Digitize Video" which has a CD attached containing a Windows
app called TRMOOV.EXE. This app converts in either direction as long
as the source and target codecs are the same (such as Cinepak or
Indeo). You can also get the app on our web site www.sfcanyon.com,
where there is a list of the known limiations of the software.
Finally, there is an article in the new issue of Digital Video that
details some other solutions and the things to watch out for when you
do your conversions.

Nels,
Thanks for the tips.
I got that copy of DV magazine you mentioned. I can save a movie as a Quicktime
for Windows movie, but I dont know which three letter ext. to give it.
Brian,
The default extension for a QuickTime movie playable under Windows is ".MOV".
Movies so named will be seen by the basic player app that comes with QTW as
playable QTW movies, and it is also a good way of marking them as being
"flattened" — having their data forks concatenated to their resource forks
with all data self contained (a Mac centric thing, but essential for playback
under Windows).

Nels,
Thanks once again for the help!
