#Syquest Amiga -> PC
6 messages in this thread
I'm looking for a way to get about 1000 pictures rendered on a Amiga
into my PC for recording. I have a Syquest 88MB Drive that works with
both Computers, but the Amiga can't read the Disks formatted with the
PC and vice versa. Is there any Programm to solve this problem ?

Hope this isn't a silly question, but have you tried reading the ads in AMIGA
WORLD for Amiga <-> DOS conversion software? I don't use an Amiga myself, but I
have a friend who does and it seems he told me there was software like that
available for the Amiga…
As for such software on the DOS side of things, I've never even heard of it.
One thing I *have* noticed about the platforms is that the smaller user-base
platforms like Mac & Amiga have a number of platform conversion options, while
DOS platform conversion options are VERY limited. Guess they feel they're
#1–they don't have to try as hard <g>…
Hope this helps,

Robert,
There is a product on the Amiga side called CrossDOS which will allow you to
read and write SyQuest 88s — I do it all the time.

BTW — the version of CrossDOS that came with the recent versions of the Amiga
OS only handles floppies.

Joe,
Not true about the AmigaDOS version of CrossDOS only handling floppies
(at least for WB3.1). There's very little documentation (in the WB3.1
manual), but I've got my old 44MB Syquest working fine with MSDOS
formatted cartridges. I use a PC version of LHA to archive blocks of
image files from the PC and then on the Amiga use LHA again, usually
direct to DDR: to build up a video file on the PAR.
There's acually a sample mountlist in the WB3.1 manual for 88M
Syquests; I had to work out what to change for the 44M versions.
Martin,
I do not have WB3.1. I don't recall seeing a sample mountlist in the previous
versions. But still you should not format the hard drive under Amiga DOS (or
has that changed also).

The same mountlist info is in my WB 2.1 manual (i.e. the 88MB syquest
example), if memory serves. I know I've seen it, and I'm only running
2.1/3.0.
