I need to get a Windows display of 1024 res conerted to NTSC video so I can get
it into a vcr for a simple presentation. I thought I saw a gadget in computer
shopper a few months ago that was an external box to connect to laptops to
allow their display to go to a big screen tv. If anybody knows about it or a
similiar device I would appreciate some advice.

I am not sure about this (at all) but you may have a problem using 1024×768 and
an encoder for video. All of the encoders that I have seen for PC's pretty
much require that the host system be running in 640x480ish resolution.
