#Garbage Files
10 messages in this thread
I have been noticing that something is creating lots of garbage files
on my computer. When I say "garbage files" I mean files in the root
directory with names like alcfaddo or bbcmnnop with no extension and
of zero size. I can only guess that somehow 3ds is creating them (or
possibly animator pro) since these are the only programs that I have
been using. Well, I guess wincim too, but I doubt that.
They don't seem to cause any problems. I just keep deleting them and
everything seems to move along smoothly, but I really wonder what they
are.

Do you use Lantastic?
Ed
No, I don't use any network on this particular computer. I do use it in slave
mode to render a batch of things from time to time, though.
Would Lantastic do that?

Matt:
I get those files when my workstation is rebooted whilst in the middle of
running 3DS and other DOS based programs. I've always just deleted them and
moved on.

Ive got the same kind of files and I noticed them after I began using
Lantastic. I guess thats not it though. Ed
I've had the same "problem" for a LONG time, but it never really bothers
anything, although it is irksome. I'd be interested in finding out what the
deal is too. No, I don't use Lantastic or any networks…

Hi Matthew,

When using cfig386 3ds.exe, is the "-swapdir" currently mapped to the
root directory?

I just checked, and yes it is mapped to C:
But, why should that do it?

Hi Matthew,
<< But, why should that do it? >>
That I don't know right now. I'll ask the ACAD techs on Monday if this also
happens with ACAD.
Matt,

These are swap files created by the Pharlap Dos Extender. ACAD 3DS
and ANIPRO use them. Normally, they are automatically deleted if you
leave the application 'proper'. If you boot while in an application
these files remain.
