My company has just started carrying a relatively new product called SNAPPY!.
I thought it may be of interest to some of you. SNAPPY is a video frame
grabber that attaches to your parallel port (have laptop … will grab <g>) and
comes with TWAIN drivers as well as its own little utility. Pretty nice. 8x
over samples to create pretty darn nice images very up to 1500x1125x24bit.
Comes standard with composite NTSC inputs .. but has optional S-VHS adapter.
For $195 … its one of the most amazing things I've seen.
If anyone wants anymore info contact feel free to e-mail me … the "spec
sheet" it pretty faxable (at high res).

Yes I have one & it's alot of fun. Of course, frame grabs from motion video
are a problem quality wise, but otherwise I like it. I believe it was
designed by the ex-Toaster Guys!

I've had it for about a month now. I've found it's very good for
grabbing in "still video mode" direct from tripod mounted camera
(quick 'n dirty "scanning"), transparencies, and moving tape as long
as camera is frozen on still-life subject (talking heads seem to work
O.K. as well). I've been somewhat disappointed with attempts to grab
from tape with moving subjects (Sony VX3-CCD Hi-8) and forget about
VHS, but that's not surprising. Color saturation is quite good &
it's Twain compliant. Don't care much for the included "consumer"
editing software–I import into Photoshop. I would like to see a
S-VHS version, however and an AC adapter. They say the 9volt should
last for 1,000 grabs, but I don't believe that takes into account the
option of monitor viewing in preview mode. (Of course the preferred
way to do it is with an actual TV monitor for previewing). Overall,
you can't beat it for price and portability. I give it 2-Thumbs Up!

Need to have you repost your announcment about carrying SNAPPY again. This time
take out the price! (not allowed in public messages). I've moved the original
posting to a closed area of the message forum. Why don't you put up the spec
sheet as a library file? Marc Fournier, a member of this forum from Montreal
has been raving about the product and has already put up several library images
showing what it can do.
I'm down at my Mom's in Virginia this week and working from a laptop. I'd
forgotten how hot and humid it is down here. That changeable weather in Maine
has thickened my blood <G> But the flowers, leaves and sun make me remember
many good times grwoing up and I wonder if I'll wander down this way to retire
when the cold gets too much. Had crab cakes on the restored part of Norfolk
harbor yesterday. But not as good as those in Baltimore!
