I have recently given an A500 w/ a SupraXP500 HDD and the 1080 monitor that
came with my used A1000 I purchased in 1989 to my Father. Although I never had
any trouble with the monitor it has been going black on him after the computer
has been on for several minutes. He is sure that it is a monitor problem
because he has turned it off and left the computer on for perhaps 20 to 30
minutes and then turned it back on and it works for a short time. It sounds
like something is going bad and when it warms up it fails. Anyone out there
who knows how to fix this problem? My Father lives in Roswell NM and if we
can't fix it ourselves will need a shop to fix it or if that proves to costly
will need to find a replacement. Cost is a deciding factor for this system.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The old 1080's had a problem with the flyback transformer cage. There
are twisted metal tabs where the cage is mounted to the chassis…these need to
be soldered in place.
If all else fails…any competent TV repair shop should be able to fix
it.

In addition to Don's comments, check the solder joints on the flyback
itself. They tend break after time. I've seen that glitch more times than
any other failure. (BTW, there are dangerous voltages inside monitors…
be careful. I'm sure you know that, but better safe than well,,,, ya
know.:) )
