#Imagine under Win 95

I'm trying to get Imagine to run under WIN95 on a Thinkpad; won't boot a DOS
session! I think the problem is the "PS/2" compatible mouse driver that the
ThinkPad uses. I'm using the config.sys/autoexec.bat setup from "3D Modeling
Lab." Any (serious) advice? 🙂

I don't have Win95 installed, so I can only show you a portion of my CONFIG.SYS
as I use it. I know others have been able to run Imagine with a DOS BOOT in
Win95, hopefully they will chime in.
Here are the relevant portions of my config.sys that allows me to use EMM386 &
HIMEM.SYS, and still be able to run all my software including Imagine:

BUFFERS=40
DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS /shadowram:on <- You may not need the shadowram
switch
DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE RAM HIGHSCAN
FCBS=16,0
DEVICEHIGH=C:\MOUSE\MOUSE.SYS
STACKS=9,256
——snip—–
With this setup, you still need to use the "/noxms" switch, but you won't need
a seperate config setup.

Wow, That was a speedy reply!
Update: I installed a serial mouse under WIN95; still no joy, it just hangs and
needs the old three-finger salute to reboot WIN95. So I don't think it's a
mouse problem any longer. I'll try the EMM386 thing though. Anyone else runing
WIN95, PLEASE DO chime in.

Win95. Guess I should make space on my HD for it eh? What the heck, I can

You might try this, it works for me. Create a shortcut calling
"c:\command.com". select the advanced button at the bottom to the window.
Select MS-DOS mode and specify a new MS-DOS configuration. In the two dialog
boxes below that you type in the contents of the Config.sys and Autoexec.bat
that you want it to use when it starts you the dos sesion. Make sure you leave
the line that has EMM386.EXE out of the config.sys box.

your suggestion and it still hangs booting into DOS.

That's it. remember that you have to go into advanced settings and select
"MS-DOS mode" and "Scecify a new MS-DOS configuration"

Do you happen to be using the real mode drivers instead of the 32 bit CDROM
drivers in Win 95 too?

The SCSI drivers are 16 bit and the MSCDEX is the Win95 version and I asume
that it is 32bit.

Yeah, same as me. The 32 bit SCSI drivers wouldn't work consistently for me so
I had to use the DOS real mode drivers.

I've had Imagine 3.2 running with Win95 since the day I got it. I just made a
shortcut and set up the PIF to let it take the whole machine. Make sure your
command line has the /noxms command in it or it won't work. I haven't had any
crashes or hangups whatsoever in Imagine. Haven't tried running it as a window
yet. I got Doom ][ running under windows last night though.<g>
