#Tubes

Thanks (!) for the info on creating bent tubes. Although Sweeping a disk will
make a bend for plumbing type tubes, all the face extrusion is time consuming.
Better to sweep the disk 90 dg and insert a cylinder in each end for a pipe
look.
But on the way to doing this I found the answer to my problem — extrude the
disk along an arced path — bingo, a 'bent' tube!
New Question:
How to send a light object (sphere) along that tube/path and leave a trail of
light?
The tube/path is an arc.

Bill,
Give us a little more info…will the light "trail" stay as it is deposited, or
will it dissipate over time, staying a constant length behind the sphere
object?
-GreG
The sphere will leavc a trail behind it not to dissipate. I anticipate
exploding the sphere at conclusion of path but want the 'trail' to remain;
possibly to morph to a fog object. Am newish to IM but grasp Povray type
modeling. Haven't quite learned the textures in IM3.2 (and much else).
Thanks for your advice!

Bill,
Great, this makes it a lot easier. <g> Check page 274 in the manual covering
the GROW.IFX special effect. What you will do is create a disk, group it to
your path, and with the GROW.IFX have the disk GROW (extrude as it follows the
path over the number of specified frames). This will be your light trail.
Assign whatever textures/attributes to the disk you want and have a go at it.
You might even want to make the disk a FOG object. If you have difficulty with
it, give a holler.

Hey! So that's what GROW is for! Thanks! Now one last question….what's a
manual? (G)
Life just get's simpler!

Bill,
I dunno, I never needed no steenkeeng manuel. Hey! Manuel, come here, you
steenk!
Ok, now that that's out of my system. I'm referring to the 352 page reference
manual for Im3.0, which admitedly is lacking. Hopefully this manual will be
the last one of it's kind, which all signs seem to indicate will be the
case…such as Impulse has found someone who knows Imagine intimately, and who
has in the past written very _very_ comprehensive manuals.

What a relief!
