I know what you mean (and somehow I knew that you meant multi-session, not
multispeed!).
As I mentioned, I had to make a pretty quick decision regarding buying now
or later. I also had *heard* that the multisession would be out by
December. When I asked the Insight/HDI salesperson, he didn't have much
info on it. Oh well, once again I get bit by the vapor viper! 🙂 RRR
I bought one of the HDI/Insight Texel 3024 drives and am very happy with it
– its a speedy little sucker 🙂 The drive comes with a mail in coupon
sent directly to Texel. The flyer says that when Texel finishes writing
the multi-session driver for Kodak's PhotoCD, it will be announced and
current owners of the drive can upgrade for a mere $20.

Hi, just thought I'd jump in for a second, I just purchased a DM-3024 and a
Trantor T13b SCSI-2 and was told this system IS NOW Kodak cd compatible.
You are saying that Multi-Session would be compatible, is that the same as
SCSI-2 (T13b) and CD-ROM XA Mode 2 (DM-3024) ?, if so, Texel is now selling
the Kodak compatible models.

The Texel 3024 I bought came with the SCSI-2 adaptor from Future Domain.
What that means about Kodak compatibility, I don't know. What I do know is
that HDI told me (and the Texel flyer verifies) that all thats needed is
the appropriate driver, which Texel will soon have available for $20.

It's more than just a driver. You have to send the drive back for a new
ROM chip. But the price willbe $19.95. I just talked to a Texel rep
yesterday about it.

If its a pop-in chip, I will not be sending the drive back, let them send
me the chip and I'll drop it in myself.

That's what I would prefer, too. Perhaps it requires some disassembly to
put the chip in (bad design, if true!) and perhaps they are worried about
novices pulling the drive apart. Unitl I have one to look at, I can't say.
