#Star Wars scroll

Been playing around with the animation things in DPaint III lately. While I
was experimenting, I thought I'd try to get an effect that was used for the
opening text of the Star Wars movies (and also Spaceballs 🙂 The text
scrolls from 'under the screen' into view at an angle and off into space. I
though, "this should be pretty easy" – but when I started fooling around
with the effect I found it wasn't. I wanted to use this for a video, so I
was in hi-res overscan. When I got the effect rendered the first time, it
was too fast at 30 frames/second and when slowed down it was really jerky.
To get even one line of text to scroll at a somewhat smooth rate I had to
use alot of frames (so much so that I guru'd when I tried to save the
anim). This had me really curious now. Has anyone tried using this effect
and have it come off successfully? If so what program did you use to
achieve the effect and how'd you go about getting it to work? Sure
appreciate any dialog on this.
I tried to do exactly the same thing for my cousin's wedding video.
I tried it using SA3D, InterFont and a 3MB Amiga 2000. I rendered the
wireframe model perfectly but found that it required nearly 500 frames to
scroll at a comfortable reading speed. Then I tried to render it in solid
form, the machine quickly ran out of memory. It seems that the number of
vertices in the image was more than it could handle. Well, so far we know
of two methods that don't work!
