Are you going to upload a pic of your new pad when it is finished? I hope I can have a dedicated computer environment someday designed to my specs.

DonavaN, I hadn't even considered uploading any pic of the room, since I'm sure it wouldn't be that interesting. (interesting to me of course, since I get to move in 🙂 Basically, it's a medium sized room (@ 12'x14) with the following 'computer' custom features built-in…. There is a countertop wrapping around two walls, built in sections so I can reconfigure it easily. Just about the countertop on 2 1/2 walls is a continuous horizontal 'gutter', which is built into the wall itself. The purpose of the 'gutter' (about 5" tall and 4" deep) is to allow all cables, power, AV connectors, phone/modem jacks, to be buried inside the wall. I am taking a shot at eliminating the cable nightmare that I am sure many of us experience 🙂 Built inside the 'gutter' are several power strips (with seperate circuits allowing me to later add surge, power backup, etc), video/audio/speaker connections, phone/modem connections. The AV connections go to a patch panel, which is right next to an AV equip stand. There are speakers built into the wall, seperate adjustable lighting for both the center of the room as well as over the workstations. I ran a coax network cable from the gutter to the attic of the house, for (maybe) sometime in the future when I have a machine upstairs too, and I want them to be networked. There is ample closet space, as well as a couple of 'nooks' that can hold file cabinets, etc. Catch is: it's not done yet 🙁 I will be finishing the sheetrock this weekend, so that I can get a professional taper in over the next week. Then I'll do the finish work and paint, carpet, etc. Am aiming for end of February…. that would make it almost exactly ONE YEAR since I first tore out the old ductwork. A truism: everything takes longer than you think it will, but a basement remodel takes FOREVER! ttfn –jp–seattle–

And I just have my little old MacTable. It gets the job done but I envy your setup. I like your vision of installing a network cable for future expansion too.

I've been thinking about what would be optimal for a computer room, too. I envision an arc-shaped counter top, with room for three-four computers, and a series of terrace-like ledges above them for monitors, scanners, etc. I think a cable tray is a must, too. I think I'd like to be able to walk behind everything. At one place in the arc, I think I want a rack-mount for video equipment. Ethernet everywhere, lotsa phone lines, lotsa power.

John, You don't want the new Diet Jolt? Supposed to be a lemon-lime drink with 72mg of caffeine per can.

I don't think I've ever seen Jolt in the stores around here. Something about crowding out the milk supply, said the distributor. 🙂
