Term 2.4a – HELP!

Hello:
I'm using Term 2.4a …. and not very well at that. I just can't
seem to get the XPR's to work for downloading. On Compuserve, I can use
Ymodem and Xmodem (yawn) but not the B+ or QuickB XPR's. I've downloaded
the latest versions (I think) but to no avail. Has anyone a suggestion?

I'll try and help if I can, I use Term 2.4a all the time on my 4000 and my
3000 and haven't had too many problems. Can you give me an idea of what it
does when it doesn't work? I use bplus normally and at times Ymodem.
Heres the settings I use for bplus (maybe this'll help)
Text Convert No Overwrite No I/O buff size 16 Auto
Initiate yes Delete after snd no keep partial yes Attempt resume

I'm sure many other settings will also work but these are the ones I use
and don't have any problem. I have seen quite a few error messages for
check sum (crc-32) when I try and do alot of other things when downloading
with bplus (doesn't happen with Ymodem) Let me know if I can be of any
assistance.

My normal program to work on cis is OnLine!, but it has just given
up the ghost and I have given up on it. I have been useing Term2.4a for
locale work. My problem is getting Term and Arexx to work together. I have
a lot a arexx scripts that I used with OnLine! and would like to convert
them to work with Term, can you help?
The problem maybe that I don't use the result variable. Could you
upload a simple example that you use on cis to browse the areas download
messages or reply to messages?

Sorry, can't be much help with arexx; I don't use it much at all though I'm
sure some of the other term users out there will see your message and
reply. I know alot of the users on CIS use autopilot for message reading
and all. There is another real nice communications program on CIS called
VLT; it is really well done and is free for the asking and a printed manual
is free also ( you just have to send and ask for it). VLT gives me alot
fewer errors when downloading and seems to multi-task much better than
term. It has excellent arexx support also. Sorry I couldn't be more
helpfull on the arexx problem.

Well, Term 2.4b seems to have fixed my stability problems. It only acts
odd with Directory Opus v3.41 @ the moment. But then, given DO 3.xx little
glitches (font handling for instance), that is likely to be Dir Opus
3.xx's fault. Now if 4.0 has straightened that out….

Thats good news; I'm glad to see things are going better for you. I don't
have Term 2.4b yet; I'll have to grab it from somewhere. I do have Opus 4.0
and haven't had any problems so far. Hopefully you'll be as lucky.

First of all, have you copied the XPR libraries for B+ & Quick B to your
LIBS: directory? If so, you should be able to bring them up in a
requester by selecting Transfer Protocol, from the Settings menu. What I
would do is bring up the phone book and select your CompuServe entry,
click on Transfer in the Settings list box and set your default transfer
protocol to the B+ or QuickB XPR library (I use XPRBplus.library). Save
your phone book and then give it a try. I hope this helps.

Yes, I have the XPR libs in my LIBS: directory and yes they come up
in the Transfer Protocol requester…that's what is so frustrating
..I'm so close to getting it to work!

What exactly is the error that you get?

When I get ready to download a file, it appears that the C-serve
mainframe sends a series of initial codes (eg. BR3GGT5X) that get displayed
on my screen, but do not initiate the auto-download process. But even if I
try to "manually" start the d-load, the process locks up.

Well, that rules out that theory!
If you want, make a copy of your configuration files and send them to me
and I will see if they cause the same problems for me. To do this, pull
up your phonebook, delete all entries except the one that you are using
Zmodem (and/or CIS B+), then remove all the personal passwords etc.. then
save the phonebook with a different name. Compress the file (it will be
in the ENVARC: dir) and send it to me via E-Mail.
I will load it up and insert some local phone numbers and then see what
happens. If I have the same problems, then we know that it is simply a
TERM config problem, if not, well…
