#5.05 upgrades
15 messages in this thread
Mike,
Could you reiterate what you told me before regarding 5.05 and
5.05A patches? Lattice sent me the 5.05A patch on disk and I am jsut
getting around to installing it. Is this the latest one? Also, the readme
file on the disk mentions that it must be applied to 5.04 or 5.04A. Is the
final result of the patch different depending on which 5.04 version was
used? Thanks, PM
Patrick, as far as I know, based on what was said on here, 5.05A is the
latest patch.
Like Mike said, you can apply the patch to version 5.04 or 5.04A. The end
result will be the same. If in doubt, look at the install script file.

5.05A? All I have is 5.05. Is there a difference? If so, how do I get
the latest upgrade? I _am_ a registered user, so if there is a Lattice BBS
number, I could call and download the upgrade.

The BBS number is 708-916-1200…..1218/19 for 9600 HST. It will take a
day or so to confirm your status. Pat.
Bob,
There is only one 5.05. We originally created a 5.05 patch disk and
found that some 5.04 users could not get it to work (due to a 5.04 shipping
mess up). We then created the 5.05A patch disk which would work on both
versions of 5.04. To repeat, 5.05 is 5.05.

Thanks Mike. I thought that I had the most recent version. Just one
question. Even though I have a readme.505, when I run lc, it shows 5.04.
Why?

Bob,
Lattice has had the policy of updating only version numbers for the
executables that have changed from one patch to the next. The LC command
did not change and so is still version 5.04. This policy has not worked
extremely well and will probably be changed in the future so that all
executables reflect the patch level.

Thank you.
I was pretty sure that the patch had been applied, but I wasn't quite sure.

As a long time Lattice C user, registered user, and sometime Lattice BBS
visitor, I was surprised to find that the Lattice BBS no longer knew me.
Two days ago, I re-registered and, again, supplied the serial number to my
Lattice C package (5.04) then went hunting for the 5.05 patch. I wasn't
allowed.
Since the reg info said that I would be validated in 24 hours, I called
back the next day. Again I wasn't allowed, so I left a message to the
sysop.
Today, I went back on and am still not allowed, and there was no reply from
the sysop.
What's up? Is there a purge going on? Are heads rolling? Are we users
going to be dropped to the bottom of the totem pole?
We went with Lattice because of its reputed support. Now you
(collectively) don't even answer your mail.

Don,
I'll check with Carlotta and make sure you are properly registered on
the BBS. Things are hectic here with the transfer to SAS. My last day is
next Friday (June 29). SAS claims that they will continue the support, but
how well remains to be seen.

Mike,
I've got a request…but if you wish to ignore it…go ahead, I
know you've got other things on your mind…like finding a job.
If lattice support is being transfered to SAS, will they continue
to use the current BBS, or will they open up a new one?
Don
Don,
Last I heard, we don't know what will happen to the BBS, and SAS doesn't
seem to know either. I don't think SAS even knows how they are going to
support the Amiga product yet. They didn't think about that sort of thing
in advance. Not sure if I should 🙂 or :(.

P.S.: I've found a new job. I've got one more week at Lattice and I'm
taking four days of it as vacation. I'll have to remember to move the " /
Lattice" from my title. 🙂
Mike,
Great…glad you found another job so quickly. That's good.
Don
Mike;
At least that last statement seems to imply that you are going to be around
with us for awhile……. Hope my assumption is correct as I really
enjoyed your comments on many subjects.

Patrick,
The 5.05A patch disk will patch both versions of the 5.04 compiler. The
older 5.05 patch disk would only patch one of the versions. If the patch
applies without any errors then you have nothing to worry about. No matter
which 5.04 you started with, the 5.05A patch will give you the correct 5.05
compiler system.
