#New HD, Mountlist?

Howdy,
I've gotten an Imprimis scsi hd. I can define it with HDTools in WB 2.04,
but do I still need to put an entry in my mountlist for it? If so, what
would be a good model to use? It doesn' yet show up on he WB to do an
AmigaDOS format.

No, once you've formatted it, it will 'be there'. You will probably
have to 'format' the drive from the shell the 1st time.

Thanx for geting back to me! Well, I've removed the drive for now, as I
never got to successfully save the drive definition and partitions to
hdtools. Maybe I shoud have tried QBTools? Never did get the drive to
low-level format, or see the drive on the wb.
Anyway, Imprimis was bought by Seagate, and Monday I'll call them to try
and get the docs! I think it's a scsi settings problem. HDTools gos out an
gets the drive definition, except for the size (330mb) of the drive.
Curious.

Use HDTOOLS to define a new drive. Read the drive parameters. If this
fails try entering the info yourself from the mfgs spec sheet. Then
PARTITION the drive from HDTOOLS. When you PARTITION it you will have to
name it somthing. Lets say you name it HD0. Quit HDTOOLS and run the
SHELL. From this type the following line. FORMAT DRIVE HD0: NAME "WOW"
FFS QUICK NOICONS<RETURN> And NO you do not type out RETURN you press it.
The drive should than be ready to rock. If you get really hosed you may

Thanx for getting back to me re: the Imprimis HD. Using HDTools, I do
define the drive, partition it, then whn I try to 'save changes to drive',
it doesn't 'take'. The drive entry does say Not Changed but I believe it's
incorrect. When I format from the shell, the return is 'device or volume is
not mounted. I don't have any mfg specs, as this was part of a 'no good'
vars package deal in a clone. I was just seeing if I couldn't salvage some
parts. Doesn't seem to be working…

sorry that did'nt help. It should have worked. I do believe that if the
device did not work you should have gotten an error from SCSI tools. Say
did you partition the drive from within tools ok? Try checking to see if
it "remembered" it was partitioned all right.

The 'Read Cofiguration From Drive' will not tell you the size of the
drive in megabytes. It should, however, tell you the number of cylinders,
number of heads, blocks per track, and blocks per cylinder. This is all the
information HDToolBox requires in order to do its thing.

Re: The Imprimis HD. I tthink there may be an unknown electrical or jumper
problem wih the drive as it doesn't seem to allow writes. In HDTools when
I 'save changes to disk' the drive listing says 'not changed' as if it were
saved, but upon rebooting, the drive is unkown again. I don't have the mfg
specs or any doumentation (naturally) I was trying to salvage somee
'obsoleted' equipment from work… Later

It's a big sucker (3x5x7.5 inches), I'm also wodering if the power supply
from the Mac 80mb exetrnal case I'm using is too small, (one amp, I think?)

There's nothing on that drive that should prevent writes. The only
jumpers are for grounding options (frame to signal or not), address, and
enable/disable parity, and finally, terminator power.

Glad to hear that this Imprimis SHOULD work. Now, if I could get the docs
that explained each jumper, I'd know how to set them… I've been calling
Seagate (I was told they bought Imprimis?) but get no answer. The number's
at work, it's an 800 #.
Maybe I'll fiddle more this weekend.

The information you seek is probably here on CIS…there is a listing of
all the jumper settings for ALL Seagate drives. Go to IBMFF and search on
SEAGATE…you'll find it.

Well, IBMFF, with keyword seagate, found 16 files. One was for a
Seagate4096. It was a schematic of a drive's jumpers, but not this Imprimis
monster… Hmm, maybe I'll search on Imprimis…
