To All who know all….
Is it possible to configure an amiga with amax and maybe crosdos, to read
mac syquests and transfer images to an IBM formatted syquest. This could
save having to go to 9 track tape for transfer to output devises at work.
Any help will be much appreciated and may save the amigas from the fate of
a new IBM configured tracking system.
Amigas like doing graphics work much more than scheduling but they worked
good for a couple years (cheap). 🙂

You _might_ have to go from MAC syquest cart to Amiga syquest (under A-Max
using FileTranfer 2.5) and then under AmigaDos, use Cross-Dos 5 (due out
within the next few weeks) to go from Amiga Syquest cart to hard drive to
IBM syquest cart.
Of course, your life would be a lot easier if APPLE FILE EXCHANGE supports
MSDOS formatted syquests! I don't know if it does or not… maybe someone
else here knows?

Yes! (I think I understood it, anyway)
Here's a couple of ideas. First, the DoubleTalk board for the Amiga will
let your mac talk to the amiga as an appletalk compliant server. You can
also get an appletalk board for the PC to get the files as well. Another
way is to use a Novell network, Oxxi's Novell client software, Netware for
MAC, and put them all on an ethernet network. That's what I'm running and

A couple of Questions about the ethernet software. Can it be used in a
peer to peer setup (NWare lite for example) Is it only a client? or can one
of my amigas be a server too? Do you folks have some specs you could upload
to your section? A local net would make my (our) lives alot more elegant
and convenint. We have 6 computers, 3 brands, spread over 1500 feet.

Zaak, the Amiga Client Software requires a PC/AT server for running the
Novell NetWare environment it requires. Aside from that, it delivers
"pure" NetWare functionality. (The quotes are there because the NetWare
utilities on the Amiga are multi-tasking, and do not interrupt or change
the multi-tasking, graphic environment of the Amiga.)
Peer-to-peer NetWare Light is _not_ supported. However, Amigas, Macs, and
PCs (or any other brand that can link into a Novell NetWare network) can
interact freely over the network.

Thanks for the quick reply. How robust is the client software? What
kind of proccesor overhead? Has anyone done an independent
evaluation/review of it yet? One of the BBS's around here (Chicago) had
some problems with earlier versions, what is the current release? What is
the lowest NetWare version it will support (2.2a ? )? Where do I get off
asking all these questions?
I have several clients who could benefit from a good multi-platform
network and the amiga is still my favorite machine soooo any info I can get
about your client software would be welcome. Thanks Zaak ( The Wiz )

Zaak, glad to get questions! Amiga Client Software (ACS) is _very_ robust,
having been integrated seamlessly into systems with Toasters, mostly-PCs,
mostly-Macs, internetworks up to 40 servers (that we've had reports from),
NetWare remote hookups, conversions to twisted-pair cable — you name it!
Independent review and evaluation articles have appeared in Amiga World May
'92 and Amiga Shopper April '92.
The release version is labelled NCP library 35.00. I'd be interested in
responding here to whatever problems they're having — so far as we know,
the only problems that came up in the first release product have been
stomped flat. (For independent confirmation here, try Vic Wagner of
Metadigm — they have an ACS network. I'm sorry, but I don't have Vic's ID
handy. He's active here and in AmigaTech, though.)
ACS supports all released Novell NetWare server software from version 2.15c
through 3.11.

We're quite happy with the ACS software and haven't run into any real
stumbling blocks. We _would_ like to see the API for it (nudge, nudge)
'cuz we've got some ideas we'd like to try (we have from 2-4 Amigas hooked
up at all times here (single server, and simply an additional PC at this
point…gonna upgrade to a 10 user system shortly (Novell))
how about client software for banyan? Is there appletalk software for the
amiga that will make the amiga an appletalk peer or client?

For both questions, the answer is "Not from Oxxi". The Amiga Client
Software product is strictly for Novell NetWare.
