Supra Corporation is now shipping Fax software for the Amiga. GP Fax is excellent send/rec fax software. With GP Fax you can fax as easily as you can print. GP Fax also converts IFF graphic files to Fax format and vice versa. GP Fax features customizeable cover pages, signature, phone books with individuals and groups, AREX port, junk fax elimination, and many other features. GP fax works with the SupraFAXModem Plus, V.32, and V.32bis and other Class 2 compatible modems. Todd

When I bought my Supra 14.4, I had to pay for the MS-DOS FAX software that came with it. Is there a way I could exchange it or get credit for the Amiga version? I don't do MS-DOS. –Paul Whappin' from the Wine Country

Paul I'm sorry, but no. If you didn't need the dos software you should have ordered the stand alone package. Kenny Supra Tech Support

Kenny: Has Supra finalized pricing on the GPFAX s/w alone yet? Is it shipping? Michael ….from the north coast

Michael >Has Supra finalized pricing on the GPFAX s/w alone yet? Is it shipping? I think it is $49.95, but I'm not sure. I know the software is done, but we may be holding off shipping the software by itself intil we get caught in some of the back orders of the complete packages. Kenny Supra Tech Support

That $49.95 is about 1/2 of the last word I heard — bu then, that was a few months ago and I think ATalk II (or III) was part of that for some reason… Brian – via Whap!

I called Supra today and they quoted $99.95 for the software alone. The girl I spoke with did not know if Atalk came with it. I've seen the software and think it is very good but the price seems a little high and I don't need Atalk. I did not order it yet. $49.95 sounds more like it. The Mac fax software for the same modem is $49.95!! Duh, I don't know man. ….Mark Sterling 74335,1677

Mark, I called Supra about 24 hours earlier than you and was told by "Michelle" that the GPFax software will only work with Supra Modems ( I do own a SupraV32bis) which is why at present it is not available separately, and went on to say maybe I should ring back in 2 weeks and see if a software only package is available!. I also got the impression that if I was a U.S citizen I would recieve a mail shot about it but as I am living in England this would not be the case, which gets me very worried about getting a "July 15th" Rom upgrade too. At least it would seem from your message that it is available, but at $99.95 I think I will wait and see what happens with AFAX, and meanwhile struggle on with the Demo. I am beginning to lose faith in Supra, there was a time I would have recommended thier modems to anybody (I have owned 4) but just last week persuaded a friend to get a HST DS for his DTP business. Todd, That's great news about the Fax software. I was waiting for it before I upgraded to a Supra modem. What's your top-of-the-line fax/modem? I believe the V.32bis. Is that correct? Thanks. Dom Fontana

Quick question: does the V32bis faxmodem have a modem/fax switch in it? Or do I have to set something manually based on what I think is coming in? –rbt

Robert, The vast majority, if not all comm/fax modems base their mode of operation on software for outgoing calls (comm program vs a fax program) and on the handshake tones on incomming calls. Don

Thanks for the clarification. I think it's about time to get into these things seriously

Robert, I'd suggest you take a long hard look at the Practical Peripherials PM14400FXSA modem also. I'm using one now…works like a champ. Don

Hi, Don, How is the Practical Peripherals modem better than the Supra modem? Could you give me more details, please? Is it a fax modem and if so, does it come with fax software? Thanks. Dom Fontana
#60759From: Don Curtis/SYSOPJun 22, 1992 1:18 AM
Dom, It's made with the AT&T chip set, the same chips AT&T uses in their top of the line Paradyne modems. The Supra uses the Rockwell chip set. The PPI has a 12 character backlit LCD display, the Supra has (I *believe*…I've only seen pictures of one) a 2 character LED display. The PPI comes with a lifetime warranty, the Supra warranty is less…I forget the exact amount of time, but not lifetime. I saw someone mention in the PPI Forum that their modem had taken a lightning strike and quit working…PPI fixed it for free. When the same thing occurred to my Supra 2400 modem…I had to pay to get it fixed. Yes, it's also a fax modem (class I). MS-DOS fax software is included with the modem. Street price varies….I understand it's in the $350 to $400 range, but could easily be wrong on that. Don

Unless there is fax software for the Amiga, it isn't any better than the Supra….. -Jonathan

Don, Thanks for all the info on the PPI modem. Just for clarification, how exactly do you use the MS-DOS fax software with the Amiga? Thanks. Dom Fontana

Robert, I'm sorry I can't answer your question about modem/fax switch for the Supra modem, but I haven't purchased it yet. I'm still researching it and I don't know the answer to your question. Dom Fontana

Dominick, have you got a price for a SupraFaxModem V.32bis? I'm interested in one now that I've seen the amount the V.32bis can save me on CIS. That and they finally gave us a local 9600 number. Brian Bartlett
#60512From: Steve AhlstromJun 18, 1992 12:36 PM
Brian, Currently CompuServe does not support v.32bis, just v.32, so 9600 will be the highest potential thruput. -sja

Steve, I realize that. Even so, the improved transfer rate, adjusted for increased cost, more than pays for the modem in a couple of months. Brian Bartlett

Brian, Sorry, I don't have a street price for the Supra modem. I'm definitely getting it, but at a Sysop discount. I'm a Sysop in the MIDI/Music Forum. Maybe you could call mail order places. Good luck. Dom Fontana

Brian I just got my v32 for 383.00 whici is the price of the amiga kit which has the cable, fax software, ATalk3 software and the modem. Overnight air included from creative computers. It's great!!! I just have to figure out how to set it up for CIS. JOHN – The Lost Southerner!!

I received my new SupraFaxModem 14400 with GP Fax yesterday BUT the the main program (GPFax) has a read/write error!!! 🙁 Have someone succesfully tried it!? The manual looks well done and complete! – Pat, Whapping from Quebec City!

Pat, It took a bit to get it configured the way I wanted it, but the fax program seems to work as good as it looks! I am very impressed with the SupraFax v.32bis all around… It was a wise choice for me, and I would recomend it to anyone. Later, Don Suhr

The manual looks well done and complete! There is no way we can check every disk we ship, and sometimes there are bad ones go out. Send me your address and a note saying you have a r/w on your gpfax disk and I will send you another one. Kenny Supra Tech Support
