NEC CDR74 & Novell
6 messages in this thread
We are having trouble getting an NEC CDR74 to work on a Novell 3.11
network. Adaptec SCSI interface and SCSI express. Have tried various
IRQ's and can't recognize drive. Any suggestions?
Thanks, David
David,
What version of SCSI Express do you have? The NEC CDR74 is not supported
by all versions of SCSI Express, so if you don't have the correct version
then that would be your problem. On the other hand, we have had a history
of problems with NEC CD-ROM drives in combination with the Adaptec 1740 in
enhanced mode. Do you have a 1740? If so, can you run it in standard
mode?
I suggest that you call our technical support and work this out with them.
You'll get much faster responses that way. Their number is (407) 677-8333.

Regarding ScSi Adaptors. I am going to purchase a Adaptac Scsi adaptor for
my Ps/2 model 55sx which is a micro channel machine. I want to be able to
hook the NEC – 37, 74, or 73 drives to it or the toshiba 3401 drive. Will
these drives work with a particular card for the Ps/2's made by Adaptac to
convert to SCSI? Thanks. Also do the drivers come with the card when you
buy it or do you need to purchase a program which has the drivers for all
the hard drives made since the drivers are not included?
David,
Using the NEC drives with Adaptec Micro channel cards should not be a
problem. The problems we've had with NECs are with the Adaptec 1740 in
enhanced mode. A warning though, the Adaptec 1640 (their MCA card), can
only address 16 megabytes, so if you ever plan to move to a PS/2 with more
than 16 Megabytes, you'll need special drivers, and you're performance will
drop off. You might want to consider the BusLogic line of cards instead.
We sell toshiba drives, and have found them to be very reliable in a wide
range of environments.
What is the name of your company and its phone number? I would like to get
prices on the adapters for the mciro channel. Thank You. Also prices on
the drives if you have them.
