Erik – just a note to congratulate you on the amazing cover picture you did for
this month's AmigaWorld. I'm a bit jaded when it comes to 3D stuff, but you
blew me away.

Ooooh! It's out? (Hmmm, they were supposed to send me 50 copies of the
cover sheet – a 'tear sheet' they called it. Methinks I should contact
those folks, especially since they never returned the SyQuest cartridge I
sent the image on . . . .)
Glad you liked it, I was just 'moments ago' worrying about what became of
the image, and how it looked on the cover. I guess I'll have to run out
and buy an issue to see what it looks like.
I just UL'd a 752×480 JPEG image showing off the new depth-of-field
feature in LightWave. It should show up in the AmigaArts 24bit library.
(BTW, there's a 640x480x256color GIF version in the original art section
that's perfectly suitable for submission to the 'Graphic of the Month'
section in the CompuServe Magazine. Hint, hint. Both the artist and the
person who nominates it get a @25 usage credit. Hint, wink, nudge. If you
need the CIS #, just drop me a line. :^)

The AW cover looks very good! They even gave your ELFworks a nice plug.
I'd still be calling them up to get the Syquest cart back. Did you send
them a large format render of that image?

I sent a 3008×1960 Amiga 24bit IFF image on a 44MB Macintosh formatted
SyQuest cartridge. I used an AMAXII+ Mac emulator to transfer the
uncompressed image to the Mac cartridge. They used PhotoShop 2.5 on the
Mac to convert it to whatever format they use (Mac is my bet).
They plugged my Co.? Cool! (I'm STILL looking forward to seeing it – I
didn't spend more than a few days on it, & I still have as yet to see it
at full res.)

Kudos! I glanced at the AW cover when the mag arrived yesterday and then
realized it was your stuff. I went back to inspect the cover and had to
look hard to realize it was not a color photo! Great job!
Didja ever notice how when third-party mags run picture galleries, the
Amiga selections usually seem crappy? I don't think it's a conspiracy,
just bad luck. I'm thinking of mags like Videography. This month's
Computer Pictures has a nice roundup of paint programs for the Amiga, Mac
and IBM, but the one Amiga rendering they chose to use is crummy compared
to the Mac and PC images. Not for lack of tools, though! I hope more Amiga
artists start sending their stuff to Computer Pictures. It's good industry
exposure, I think.
This month's two-page AW gallery is quite impressive, even the HAM6
images. They'd mathe 68882 on the mother board. Thankyou again.

Thanks! I just got 50 copies of the cover, though I still have as yet to
see the inside of the magazine. :^)
It did come out looking very nice, though I wish I'd had LW3.0 to give the
shadows just a skosh more softess, and to be able anti-alias the jaggies
out of the image. (Even at 300DPI, there are jaggies! Not to mention the
fact that they want 1:1 pixel aspect ratios for print – something not
supported under 2.0, but available under 3.0)
I should consider sending stuff into those mags. I'm tired of seeing the
latest DPaint scribblings submitted as the 'best of' Amiga Artwork.

have been able to get rid of those last few jaggies! :^)

That large image size you used payed off. The picture looked pretty sharp
on the cover. Pity you haven't seen it yet. They always screw it up by
pasting an address label on it too. Are you sure those oil paintings are
PD? Nyuck, nyuck.

Thanks! I finally got some copies of the front cover.
They did a great job balancing the color! (Much better than 'Best of
Amiga' & 'Amiga Animation' did with my submissions to them.)
You can still see some jaggies on the some of the horizontal spans, and
along the baseboard. Oh well, next time.
I am probably skirting the limits of PD laws for those pictures, but it'd
be kinda hard to contact the artist's themselves. (Got a Ouija board? :^)

Great image! But, do ya know how big the Mona Lisa really is? I think
it's true size is about 9×12. But, please, go ahead and take artistic
license. If you made it true size, we wouldn't get to see any detail!

I have to admit that the Mona Lisa image was cropped from the original GIF
I used, but I think that one had been cropped too, as it had a much
taller/narrower aspect ratio than I remembered on the original.
I cropped it so as to best fit in with the scene. (Sorry, Leonardo! :^)
