Rendering for tape

To all-
I have rendered a couple of animations as per everones suggestions, laid
them out to tape and here are couple of problems I am having.
In one animations with a black background all looked great.
In the second one using a flat reflection map I am getting high aliasing,
but only on the part of the object that is moving. Will or can this be
corrected with a TBC as Greg told me about in another message or is it
something I am doing wrong on the settings for rendering.
And last on a third animation using flat-reflection maps, I am getting all
the faces of the object showing up with outlines, instead of just a
smooth cube it has all the faces of each surface outlined, like a mesh with
mapping. All looks fine when rendered out to .tga file and no fields, but
with fields on the faces appear.
Again I using high anti-aliasing, fields on, order 1, 512×486, aspect 1.23,
Palette Medium(is this setting important in fields on mode), Reflect on,
2-sided on, Hidden Geometry hide, Turbo on, Filter maps on.
Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

It's impossible to really tell what's going on with your files without have
a lot more information about them. It's pretty baffling to hear that when
in frame mode the geometry looks fine, but in field mode the "faces
appear".
If you have some simple examples of these effects, you can zip them up and
email them to me and I'll take a quick look at them for you when I get some
free time. (Note that I only want simple examples that clearly illustrate
the effects you're discussing. Send project files accompanied by a
readme.doc that clearly explains exactly what you want me to look for.)

Strange! But as Gary said, much more info is needed to answer the
questions.
No, a TBC won't help this problem.
How long are your animations? Are you rendering every frame? Did you apply
the flat reflection map at the face level?
How does it look as a flic???
Most of your problems don't seem to be caused by fields on or off…

My flic, in this case is 300 frames long and yes I rendered ever
frame. Yes again to applying the reflect at face level.
The flic looks fine when rendered out as a .fli at 300×200.
I know their is probable a simple explanation that another set of eyes
could see in a flash, but…..
With out changing any other setting except fields on or off I can get
the lines to appear or not around the faces of the flat reflected surface.

So all other moving objects look correct? No flicker caused by fields
rendered backwards? AutoReflections updated every frame? A minimum of 5%
or 10% reflection blur? Wearing your seat belt while rendering?
AntiAliasing threshold to 0? Lucky rabbit's foot in pocket?
Can you delete all other objects except for the ones with the problem and
still make it occur? If so, save it as a *.PRJ, ZIP it, and upload the file
to me as mail. I'll look at it Sunday morning if you can get it to me.

Are you using anti-aliasing in you flat-mirror material? This is set by
clicking on "automatic" in the materials editor and then choosing a level
of anti-aliasing other than "none".

I had the anti-aliasing, that you are referring to set to low, I tryed it
with high, taking an insight from you but to no avail, I'm still getting
these outlines of all the faces on the object.

I downloaded your file and rendered a few frames. The ones I concentrated
on were those with the most movement, especially near the beginning.
When I rendered frame 34 in the keyframer with fields OFF, I got what
appeared to be a 'normal' image.
When I rendered it with fields ON, I got a series of horizontal lines on
every other line both above and below the vertically moving 'box'. Are
these the 'lines' you referring to?
Pardon my guessing, but if these are the lines you are having questions
about, just relax! These are the images created by field rendering! That
is what they look like! A tape deck actually plays back every other line,
then it plays back the ones in between – that is what interlacing is. When
played back, you will get a perfectly smooth motion.

First off I just what to say thanks for helping me on a Sunday no less.
I rendered frame 34 and saw those lines above and below the 'box', which is
object "BASE" and didn't even notice those before but thanks for
restraining the fit I would have had seeing those too. But no those are not
the lines I am referring to. The lines I get are on the BASE itself which
is the outlines of all the faces which make up the BASE. Maybe its
something in my hardware. I could send you the .tga file or something, I
just need to get below the 600k+ size it is now.
Its not just my screen because I taken one image and put it on tape
and the lines show up even on tape. But in another .prj I have, with out
reflection the files look fine on tape.

Try rendering the file to Null device and disk only. This will tell you if
it has anything to do with your video board. (Preferably copy it to another
system to view it, also.)
It looked fine here!
What graphics board are you using?

Tried the NUll device method, same result, thought I haven't viewed it on
another system yet. I feel that is going to be the same result, because
when I laid the first frames, that showed this problem, it was taken to
another system with a tape deck hooked to it, that's how I first saw this
problem, it was on tape.
I'm using that Superstation 3D, by Herc, and I have a new XP, I just
haven't had time to install it yet. Maybe I'll have to, to see if that
could be the colprut.
Again I really appreciate the time and effort you are taking to help
me with this problem.

P.S. What was the file size of the image when you rendered it out. Maybe if
I can get the size down I'll email you my .tga that is showing this
problem, if not worse case I'll mail you a disk.

I just rendered it to 640×480. If you remove the background, or just go to
a single color background, the file size will shring TREMENDOUSLY! Try that
for some tests…
