#QEMM problem with Targa+
7 messages in this thread
After posting a request for help in Quarterdeck forum I repeat the request here
since two weeks of tweaking have done nothing and Quarterdeck support staff
dont know what to do… here is the problem.. after creating a .FLC file in 3DS
I leave the program and enter Animator Pro to view it on a television set thru
my TARGA +32/64 card, I open AniPro and choose the TARGAPLS.DRV INTERLACED 512
x 486 then choose browse and load the file.. some of the files loaded this way
play thru ok and loop over and over till I click to stop but some larger files
freeze at the end and the NEC monitor then shows the following message:
ABNORMAL PROGRAM TERMINATION PAGE FAULT
CS:EIP= 000Ch:000AD769h Anyone know why this is happening?
Now if I remove from my config.sys file one of the X= areas, like the one where
windows is, I end up with an exception #13 at 560E:FFFF, error code:0000 I
never had to worry about not enough room below 640 K till recently when I added
the NEC CDROM reader and the Logitech soundman 16 card.. Now I only have 522 K
available and many of my other softwares will not run properly… Only have 16
K available in high RAM according to QEMM manifest… If it might help here is
my config.sys and Autoexec.bat LASTDRIVE=F DEVICE=C:\QEM\QEMM386.SYS RAM

would be to remove the smartdrv but then the system works like a snail…I know
I know that Smartdrv doesnt make any difference for rendering time in 3DS but
when searching etc,,, it is slow.. Mine is a 486-50 with 16 Mg ram, Adaptec
EISA Busmaster SCSI 1742 controler, 640mg SCSI HD , floppies ,NEC CD ROM and
the low-end ATI VGA wonder XL card..Do those strange messages ring a bell with
anyone? Thanks from Bob Smith in Montreal…
Appears that when you start paging to the Hard Drive (EISA SCSI Adaptec) you
have the problem "page fault" and it locks up.
If that is right your problem sounds just like the EISA SCSI ADAPTEC – pharlap
bug combination that a friend of mine is working on with pharlap. He had the
same problem and currently has a beta test driver that seems to resolve the
problem. He has invited anyone to give him a call and he will try to help. He
is not on CIS so his phone # is 1-704-563-9044 hm
1-704-529-1555 WK. Ask for Randy Brown. The fix appears to be a new ASPI
driver to replace your C:\UTILITY\ADAPTEC\ASPIEDOS.SYS.
This may not be it but it sure sounds like the same problem. ie. I don't think
its QEMM or Targa+
Don, thanks for the suggestion, I contacted Randy on Saturday and spent about
an hour on the phone with him ( I'm sure Bell Canada must really like me
now<g>. Randy seems convinced that it is a conflict between my EISA SCSI
Adaptec 1742A controller card and Pharlap…I might need a new ASPI driver so,
I will be contacting Adaptec on monday morning and see what they have to say..
I will keep you and anyone else on this forum that's interested posted on if
Adaptec shows any interest in solving this problem ..
Don..heres the latest in this never ending saga..spoke with Truevision
on monday and the tech suggested changing address of Targa card from
E000-Efff to D000-DFFF …removed all the exclusions I had (one was
for windows, one for the ATI Wonder card the other for
AdaptecControler,.,)put in only one exclusion X=D000-DFFF RAM
EMB=16384 and I dont know why but all works now and I have 540 K
available,, (I even have room for smartdrv) will check it out for a
few days and see if this one crashes too..regards, Bob Smith in
Montreal.
How do you get windows 3.1 to work without x=B000-B87f?
I have a similar problem with Animator Pro. I use QEMM, with a Targa+64 and I
have a Always 2000 SCSI card. I do not use the Targa+64 for displaying
Animator Pro, I use my Diamond 24X card. Brent
Brent, by not using the Targa+64 for displaying I assume you mean on
the computer screen,, or do you used the Diamond 24X as a video
output card towards a Video tape unit ? that's what I use the TArga
card for on mine and that seems to be where there is a conflict.. I
just spoke with someone at Truevision on monday and he suggested that
I change the address of the Targa+ from E000-EFFF to D000-DFFF and
for some reason the system is now working…will try it out for a few
days a see what happens.. ..Bob Smith
