I have just received from Digital Processing Systems Inc. a brochure
of their Personal Animation Recorder (for the Amiga, but by year end
they will get out one for PC). This card ($2000) should record to a
dedicated IDE hard disk ($1000) from 3 to 5 minutes of "digital
component 4:2:2 at D-2 sampling rates", and should be capable to
output it at the maximum RS-170A (768×480 pixels) at 30 fps. With
their TBC IV card (which is already PC compatible), rotoscoping and
real time capture is possible. No single frame controller is needed.
Output is composite, Y/C and component (Betacam/M-II). If all of
this is true, I'll sell by EVO-9650 and DQ-232 controller. My
question is: Is Betacam/M-II around Betacam SP regarding quality?

I've heard that MII is of better quality than BetaCAM … but at that
level… who cares. Especially when recording a "pixelated"
computer image.
Be careful of claims regarding these technologies. If they can go to
an IDE disk … I'd be wary of the picture quality. The thruput of
an IDE drive may require compression levels which will be lossy. Many
claim a broadcast quality "signal", but that is irregardless of the
picture that it is carrying. I'm currently following a product …
soon to be released .. and to get Industrial/Profesional "picuture
quality" out … they have to go to Fast SCSI-II technology.
