Last Call!
Jerry Hatchett is getting ready to put the final wraps on our CompuServe
AmigaArts 3-D/Graphics Demo Reel. This tape is a compilation of sample
work by a number of Amiga artists who commonly hang out in here on CIS.
Anyone interested in submitting videotape samples of their work on the
Amiga should send in their tapes and $8.75 to Jerry Hatchett as soon as
possible. (We still have room for up to 5 more people.)
This is a reminder to those of you who have promised to send in videos:
Paul Gerhardt, Nathan Wahl, Jonathan Blackwell, Paul Toal, & Peter Greci.
(I'm _sure_ you guys have already sent in your tapes, right? :^)
This is also an open invitation to anyone else who wants to share their
Amiga generated artwork. If interested, please send a VHS videotape with
your samples on it, and $8.75 to cover duplication and shipping costs.
(Please try to keep the length under 10 minutes!)

You should open the video offer to those of us who don't have anims to
contribute, but who would like to see the video. *8)

You'd have to contact Jerry Hatchett about the availability of tapes to
non-contributing members. :^) (He was the one kind enough to volunteer to
compile all the different tapes and then dub them off. [Yay, Jerry!])

It might be a good idea for us to chip in some more $$$ and have
Jerry Send the Master to a Dupe house and make 50-100 of these Tapes.
Sell for $15 or so per tape and split up the proceed's with JERRY
getting a Double Share for all the EXTRA Work he's preforming????
There's alot of Animation Starved Folks around.
I'm not really in this to make any money – I just want to see other
people's work.
Jerry said he had a bank of 10 Hi-Fi VHS recorders – which should be more
than enough to dub the few tapes we'll be sending out. The $8.75 will
cover costs + $1 per tape, so I'd like to keep it that way.
(BTW, Jerry mentioned he only had tapes from from me, Nate Wahl, &
himself, so let's get cracking guys!)
(That includes: Paul Gerhardt, Jonathan Blackwell, Paul Toal, & the
'infamous' Midgard Graphics. :^)

No biggie twas just an idea. I imagine Jerry should recieve my tape
Sometime today as I first Classed it Tuesday. I'd say Monday at the
outside.
15 bucks sounds like a helluva deal to me! I just wish I could put somehting
on the tape… but who wants to see floating spheres!!!

Send mail to Jerry Hatchett. So far he seems willing to make dupes for all
interested Compuserver's. Tho he may get so inundated with requests it may
prove too much for him.
I'm VERY interested in purchasing such a monster tape. I have nothing to
contribute except kudos on what will be, I'm sure, fantastic stuff!
Count me in as an interested non-contributor.

I sent my tape Tuesday 6/8 via US Snail First Class, Jerry should recieve
it
tommorow or Monday at the outside. I sent a SVHS original direct from my
DCTV so there'd be as little loss as possible. No music was included tho,
hope that's not a problem.
I also seem to have shrt changed Jerry 25 cents, I sent a check for
$8.50, I just saw ya mentioned $8.75 . Bummer.

OK, you're off the hook, at least you sent your tape. :^)
I only sent a Mid-grade VHS dub, so you're one up on me. (I was too cheap,
I was afraid Jerry might keep my original, so I sent him a std T-60. :^)
I _THINK_ Jerry wanted $8.75, but I'm not sure . . . .
(It's OK, I sent $9.00, so he's even at this point. :^)

Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, – If you peel the label off mine you will find
"Bringing The Power Home: C+ Amiga 500 And Home Video". You see my dealer
was cleaning house and had all these old C= promo tapes and, err, well. .
. ;).
Actually if I thought that this was going to be any more than a
friendly tape swap I would want to provide a better master tape.

If I'd been thinking, I'd have supplied a better master, but I was pressed
for time that day, and I had this tape already made up . . .:^)

Ya know this Tape would make a nice article in the Compuserve magazine???
Any new goodies on the tape you sent Jerry? like this infamous "arcade"
sequence? Does this Arcade sequence that ya'll were talking about have
anything to do with a Full Moon Entertainment Production of the same name
Starring "Q" John Delancie???? They supposedly threw out all the FX they'd
done for this Virtual Reality movie after seeing Lawnmower Man.
The demo does include an early version of the arcade sequence. (There's a
few spots where an old bitmap was used by accident – they were re-rendered
for the final. And this version doesn't have the audio track which was
added by the client.)
Nope, it was made for an interactive cable show here in SF this last
week. (I guess they used the arcade sequence as the intro to the
'Next Step' portion of the local news. [Richard Hart – who does the
Next Step show which airs on the Discovery channel at 10:30 Tuesdays
– is a local reporter for KRON, and he covered the interactive cable
show.] I missed the report :^(, but according to what I heard, they
used it as the teaser in the evening news intro, and for the open and
close of the report on the interactive cable show. It ended up being
shown about 4 times during the report. (I bet that made my client
happy! :^) I really wish I'd caught it on tape, but there's a chance
I can get a copy from the guy who was telling me about it. (Maybe
it'll be on the Next Step show they produce for the Discovery Channel
– I don't know if anyone caught it, but they did a GREAT report on
NewTek about 3-4 weeks ago. It was surprisingly upbeat, considering
the appearant Mac-centricity of their coverage up 'til then.)
A movie by the name of 'Arcade'? Hadn't heard of it. (Though if they need
graphics guys, I'm ALWAYS available for film jobs. :^)

oh Well. I'd Hoped you were refferring to the FILM named "Arcade".
Since you never Hoid of it, I'll let you in, it's a Flick Starring
John Delancie(the Dude that plays "Q" on Star Trek the Next
Generation) and is Produced by Charles Band/Full Moon Entertainment,
a nice Direct to Video company doing Low Budget Horror and Sci fi.
They aren't too far from ya either their in Hollyweird. They do about
9 movies per year and just added a Childrens Video Leg(Moon Beam) and
a Theatrical Leg to to the company. They've done films such as
Puppetmaster Series, Dolmman, Trancers 2 and 3 Netherworld, Dr
Mordrid(GREAT Stop Motion Dino Bone Battle by David Allen). I URGE
you to look for their films at your local Video Store and if they
don't have any Full Moon movies DEMAND they carry them. Their GREAT
Fun "B" movies. My current Fave is still the Puppetmaster movies,
which they are now filming parts 4 and 5 of.

So, are these guys as bad as the guys from Troma films? :^)

No Full Moon isn't anywhere Near the Low Quality Dreck that comes from the
Tromaville folks. As I said Full Moon also does Sci Fi, like their Robot
Jox and Robot Wars Films.
I feel a little meek about such a short contribution, 3 minutes with some
looping, no audio. Do you think this would still be tolerable? I just saw
your AW cover and feel outclassed and intimidated now.
I'm just an elevator mechanic who needs something to do while watching
Star Trek 🙂
Could I do like a 30 second promo for a project coming to a theaterette
near you 🙂

If your stuff ain't up to snuff, it might just end up on the cutting room
floor.

Personally, I just want to check out what everyone's doing, and
vice-versa. (If you're not too embarassed to show me yours, I'll show you
mine. :^)

Just saw 'Jurassic Park'; GREAT movie! Fantastic sound on the left side of the
theatre; don't know about the right side. That ear just throbbed whenever T.
Rexx was approaching.
I'm working on what I hoped to be an animated logo to include on my portion;
looks like it's gonna be a stationary logo, though, considering the 3 hr. 8
min. rendering time for my first test frame!

I'll be seeing Jurassic Park on Tuesday afternoon. (My girlfriend's
company – Spectrum HoloByte – is treating the company to a free showing,
and she gets to bring a guest.) (I generally refuse to go to theaters
these days, but I'll make an exception for this movie.)
At 3Hr, 8Min, I bet your logo looks pretty good!

Oh Well. Wasn't sure that the Posteriro View anim was suitable but
figgered I'd include it "JUST IN CASE". Alas the Cutting Room Floor,

As to Jurassic Park, your preaise brings the total to 3 Thumbs up and
one thumbs down from Roger Ebert.

When do you think the last date for submission to this demo tape will be?
I've been thinking of dumping some of my stuff to SVHS and would be
very happy to have a public critique.
Mostly very short test anims that I've been experimenting with, I could
put them on tape in couple days if you don't expect any fancy editting.
Also anxious to see others work.
I'd like to see them, and there should be plent of room left on the tape,
so please feel free to join in! (Of course it means you have to look at
our stuff in exchange. :^)
Don't worry about editing quality. Mine was done with 2 VCRs, and one of
them was a BetaMax! <G>

No, I don't expect any fancy editing, and seriously doubt that anyone else
does, either. Send it on…
I thought I'd plan on getting it put together around the end of the week. I
got it the demo from ASDG today: brief, impressive, lots of cool F/X on it!

I'm all done with my tape. It sounded easy but proved quite difficult. How
do you do the logistics of assembling to tape? I had a hard time starting
and stopping animations at the beginning and end.

I'm gonna transfer all the tapes to 3/4" SP, and edit the segments
together, with a screen preceding each segment that tells who the
contributor of the segment is.
The frustration of the editing process that you spoke of eventually
led me to shell out the bucks for a frame accurate editing setup. I
didn't like spending the money, but it ended that frustration; now,
when I tell the editing controller to start an edit, it starts it
RIGHT THERE.
I look forward to getting your tape….

I sent my tape without audio as well. I didn't have any buy out music on
hand and didn't want to Drag out the Midi Equipment to score mine, If I'd
done that My tape would still be undone.
I personally see nothing wrong with you only sending 3 minutes of
footage.
Some of us are just Rendering Fiends.
