Rumor of the Amiga 1400

I recently read a phony report of a new Amiga. It was called the Amiga 1400 and it was supposedly a 1200 in a Apple Performa type case. Wheras I know this is fantasy, I wonder if this is the route that Commodore should have taken with the Amiga 1200. Think about it. A sepperate box to hold the drives and mother board would have also given room for one of thos 'gotta have um' HD Floppies. Also a colling fan and more room for expansion. I know the 4000 offers all of this but the 4000 is targetted toward a much different market. If portability is the factor then the Amiga 1200 is in its perfect form, however, I feel that the above mentioned configuration would have appealed to far more non Amiga users. I kind of wish the rumor of the Amiga 1400 was true. However, when has Commodore doen anything perfectly right. Can't wait to see what the have in store for THe WOA in Passadena in the Fall. How about a new add campaign? Just a Thought! Peter

Hi, Peter! I think CBM's intention was to market the A1200 as a low cost game machine. They expect to sell a lot of them overseas where the game users aren't really power users. Dom, I bought an Amiga 1200 for just what purpose it was made for. To play games. I just think than now that there is this huge market to tap, Commodore could put it self in a much better position if they had a mid or even a low level machine in different packaging. Joe consumer will look at the 1200 and see it is an integrated unit and not believe it is a 'REAL' computer. Thank God we no it is. Peter

Peter, Agreed. However, if CBM does come out with a mid-line AGA model, it probably will be an A1200 in an expansion chassis, that will cost more. They should still keep the A1200 in its current form due to its lower price. Dom Fontana –> Sent from NY via AP <–
