Well, after all of the much ballyhooed promotion over Toaster 3.0, I finally
decided to part with some MORE bucks to NewTek and get the 3.0 upgrade S/W.
** BUT ** It's apparently not real yet. I haven't been able to find a dealer
that has anything but "it's not shipping till July". Rumor is there was a bug
that bombed operation with 3rd party software that caused a hold to be put on
3.0
Anyone have anything definative otherwise — it's not ANYWHERE (at least after
8 phone calls!)
ARrrrgh!!! Are tehose folks just being a "tease" of what?
Toaster 3.0 is not shipping yet…
Toaster 3.0 is being worked on concurrently with Toaster 4000. The finishing
touches to 3.0 will be put on following the release of Toaster 4000. This is
strictly a priority issue and, as far as I know, has absolutely nothing to do
with a "3rd-party hardware/software bug". The July release info sounds about
right, but no official ship date has been indicated as of this post.

I just got a Flyer from Amigo Business Machines in Long Island NY that
says "Toaster 4000 Now Shipping" ya might want to give them a buzz about
upgrading.
Maybe the flyer was in anticipation… NewTek tells me the 3.0 softwere upgrad
is not shipping now… firt part of July mebbe…
It's greed, pure and simple. They announced that they were getting it
right away to get more pre-orders.
Some dealers are offering pre-release T4000's, but that doesn't
help those of us upgrading. I talked to NewTek customer service last
week, and thd they said "about 2 weeks". I would assume they want
sufficient stock. With over 85,000 Toasters out there, that's a lot
of disks to dupe!

'specially considering the number of disks for the 3.0 release.. Why
don't they just make life grand for us all and distribute it preloaded
on a 1 Gig hard disk included in the price! <g>
would that 1 gig drive be an IDE? It would have to be for the 4000
to read it…

Have you receive upgrade information in the mail? Has firm pricing
been established? Guess they decided not to send information to all
the NAB card zippees after all :^\
Wayne: All I've received is the "Skateboarding" brochure. No prices.
Nothing. I didn't get to NAB, but called NewTek on NAB's opening
Monday. They took my name/#/serial # and said they'd send info.
I just spoke with NewTek this morning (Monday 6/21) and theytold me
that they have not yet nailed down the last pesky details on the
Toaster 4000 upgrade offer. You haven't been left off any list, they
just haven't mailed anything out to anybody. Just make sure you've
sent your registration card to them and watch the mail box.

But I saw a demo of the new Toaster this Monday at a SF
Imagine/Toaster User Group…? Maybe just dealers are receiving it?
btw, we went through the "bones" tutorial and I was very
impressed…that's a cool piece of technology, and frankly, I'm
envious! But was a bit confused by displacement and CSG…apparently
they both work on polygon vertices, instead of on a pixel-by-pixel
basis…does this mean folks will have to subdivide to the max to
eliminate poly artifacts? More info?
Yes, If you want really nice, fluid movements, it's a good idea to
subdivide in triangular polys. The more, the merrier (to a certain
degree that is).
