Wayne, Thanks for the info, I was just going to pop a message asking for
the afore mentioned. My students are asking for the tutorial material,
costs, etc. Hey, do I get a piece of the action for MARKETING?? G
Actually, I thinking of purchasing a class set to use as a final. Sure
will tell who cuts bait. Are the materials available on disk??

Hi Joe. You might want to hold off on the ordering of the class set for
just a bit. Alan and I are just completing the last details on the greatly
improved, updated and expanded version of the AC Exam Prep Workbook and it
will be available RSN! Feb for sure.
No, it is not avail on disk yet, I am however still working on the legal
and other details of this concept here. If you REALLY wanted to work out a
deal to license the files call me and I can work with you to see if we
could perhaps pilot a project with you.
Funny you should mention about doing this with your students (actually no
surprise anymore) because I have been having similar conversations with
several states relative to their requiring/recommending that their grads
sit the AC exam. I am even working with one network of private carreer
colleges to possibly have 3000 of their students write it in June.
I would VERY much appreciate a discussion on this topic of using something
like the AC exam in public and private education. How would it fit best?
What are the pros/cons? How would it work best to deliver? etc. So let
me ask one and all to jump in here with your comments, questions,
suggestions, etc.

I too have been looking at the areas of student evaluation. I know
that here at my school we must kept track of all the competences that a
student in a vocational program has completed. Well of course this was and
is determined by the instructor. Sounds great but as we know it may be
difficult to tell what a student can really do or really knows.
Part of what I teach is Autocad. But the exam that was given to my
students at the end of last year was called the SOLCAT anybody heard of it?
It tested basic drafting skills (board only) and was dated. Pre-1970 ANSI
standards. I was not happy with the test but thought the ideal was great.
What do my students know ? How do they compare to other students around the
county? Are the skills/competencies that I'm teaching the ones that they
need? A test like this can help answer some these questions.
What I need to give is the AC Exam to determine what their skills
and knowledge of Autocad really are. This will make it possible for
employers to compare my students Autocad knowledge with others, help
determine what level of Autocad courses they would be placed at a
post-secondary institution.
