B&P Muffy Problems

Hi all Amiga musicians! I usually capture your messages in the MIDI section
weekly but seldom or never respond.
Now I have a problem. Yesterday I was preparing to upload a song I transcribed
with Bars&Pipes Pro. I used the B&P accessory MUFFY to save it in a .mid file
format which I have done previously with success. I tried to play it again
using the .mid format and also did a SAVE AS in B&P. In both cases, a new
first track appears (no problem) but also a blank track called Piano5. But the
major problem is that in the second line of piano (left hand) after start- ing
fine, all of a sudden I get about 40 measures of sustained notes. I tried
several times and the same thing happened. WHY?
Some time ago I saved some songs in .mid format–since they compress so small
and are more convenient for uploading–and I had no problems. Let me know what

That seems kind of strange… In Bars & Pipes 2.0, Muffy was
affectionately replaced by the sMerFF accessory. sMerFF has some updates.
Could you upload the MIDI file and/or song file to us here at our BBS? I will
be glad to check it out for you. Obviously, you are using an older version.
If the sMerFF accessory seems to alleviate the problem, I will send it to you.
In any case, we'll be glad to check it out.

You're back! I haven't heard anything about my problems as of yet- do you
have any news? (I also am waiting for status on some other bugs I reported
in 2.0 beta testing.)

A patch for B&P Pro will be released soon. I'm currently beta-testing
the update and writing the README file. When that's done, the update patch
will be made available here.

Hello! I passed your experiences onto some others here, as well, and
we still cannot seem to reproduce it. HOWEVER, I am not giving up!!! If you
can keep dishing me new clues, it would really help. I am sorry I cannot give
you a more definitive answer as of yet. The things you are reporting are
frustrating to me, as well!

Thanks, just wanted an update on whether you were working furiously to fix
the problem or couldn't reproduce it… now I know!
This weekend I hope to have some time to research this thoroughly. Some
possible areas:
(1) I'm running 2.1, not 2.04; this has made a difference on some other
SW. Have you tested on both?
(2) I started with the original B&P Pro, and overlaid with each beta
version of 2.0, then with the final product.
(3) I restructure my directories, so that B&P, PatchMeister, and SuperJAM!
are all in directories other than their "native" ones.
(4) In between my various reinstallations, I installed a new hard disk and
restored my original files (including my original registration number) to
it.
I'm going to start by saving my current Blue Ribbon SW directories
elsewhere, then reinstalling everything from scratch. The one thing which
is "hidden" from me, though, is your registration system. If you can, see
if that could be the source of my headaches.

Overscan DCTV animations won't play back from ANiMal and the HAM pictures
that I show with the IFF shower have the palette completely out of whack.
I uploaded the problem files and was suprised that this wasn't quickly
fixed. This was about 2 = months ago.
It really left the upgrade useless for me. Is there hope?

If you're using B&P Pro, you should be using the SMERF Accessory
instead of MUFFY. You can also leave a message for Adam Nitti here. He's
the Blue Ribbon Rep.

PMFJI, but perhaps Thomas is using MuFFy for the same reason I am: SmerFF
files break some other software packages. (Two out of three, in my
case…)
Hopefully the patch will address this, though! (Hint, hint.)

Both Encore and the Windows 3.1 Media Player barf on SmerFF output. (This
has been reported, never fear!) My SoundBrush plays them fine, though,
which leads me to think that there may be some inconsistency which these
packages resolve in a different manner. Perhaps a difference in a stated
data length and the presence of an expected terminator? Anyway, I'm
fervently hoping the next release- or patch- addresses this one.

I hope they addressed the problem. I won't be able to test it though,
since I don't own either of the programs you mentioned.
