I'm looking at 3D Studio and several other 3D Animation products for the IBM and Macintosh. Can someone please share your thoughts about 3D Studio on its user interface, capabilities and speed? If you've used other 3D products I'd appreciate any comparisons also.

I can't speak for any macintosh programs, but as far as the IBM platform goes, you would be hard pressed to beat 3D Studio, in my opinion. the only other program in the ballpark is Topas, and that just changed hands from AT&T to the original creator ( I forget the company, offhand) The program is very solid and very capable. The manuals are without a doubt the best I have ever ran across, expecially for such a complicated program. The tutorials will have you up and running in about a week with a good solid understanding of how the program works. Plus the open architecture almost unlimited freedom in the kind of animation you want to do. Overall, I have nothing really bad to say about it, just stuff I would like to see put into future releases. I had never done any 3d animation before I got 3D Studio, and I have had it about seven months now and I can do some pretty neat stuff. And that is taking into consideration that I bought a copy just to learn in my spare time, I don't get a chance to use it as much as I would like and right now it is all for fun. If I was actually doing it for a living I imagine my skill level would be much higher. What I am trying to say is that it is a full featured, relatively easy to learn piece of software that has no peer in its class. Anyone want to disagree?
