Can anybody help me in finding out which of the Soundblaster/AdLib/Pro Audio
Spectrum and similar cards might have the most configuration flexibility? I
run OS/2, and already have peripherals with IRQs of 2,3,4,5,9…would like to
add a sound card, but OS/2 doesn't like to allow IRQ sharing. Due to the mix
of the things I already have, I'm pretty much stuck with the ones I have
staying where they are. I thought I'd heard one time on here something about
difficlties with Pro Audio Spectrum 16 being inflexible in this regard…true,
& what about any of the others?
I am not sure as to the differences between OS/2 and MS-DOS as regards IRQs but
I can tell you that I am running via Creative Labs' Multimedia Upgrade Kit,
which comes with a SoundBlaster Pro card which uses IRQ7, and that this is
changeable with the software supplied and via a jumper on the card. I am
running under MS-DOS 5 though, so a fuller answer evades me.

The latest, and only the latest, revision of the PAS16 allows the use of
INT10. The SoundBlasters can be configured for 5, 7, and 10, so if you have 10
free any of them should be okay. However, the PAS16 is noted to be more
inflexible on the DMA addresses than the SoundBlaster; the latter can use DMAs
1-3 and can also be set to share DMA requests on a single channel. The PAS16
can also use any of the three but wants exclusive use.

I just got a Pro Audio Studio 16. It's suppose to be selectable IRQs 2-7 &
10-15 and DMAs 0-3, 5-7. I way suppose to because I haven't had time to set it
up yet. This is per the spec sheet. It's CD-ROM support is also more
extensive than the Sound Blaster. I did use the card and a Toshiba drive to
install OS/2 2.1 upgrade. Sure was nice.
