Where is FontMaker?
23 messages in this thread
I've heard about a Shareware program called FontMaker that would allow me t
to change standard Amiga fonts to Sculpt 4-D objects. Does anyone know
where I can get a hold of this utility?
I answered all these questions in the E-Mail version, so check your
E-Mail.
BTW, where did you get your Toaster4000. I am DESPERATELY seeking the
upgrade, but no one is selling it yet!
Thanks, &

Toaster 4000's are starting to ship to dealers NOW. With enough $$$ you to
can have one I'm sure. Think you need an A4000 though.
News FLASH!!!!!!!!!!!
Just talked to Newtek on the phone and the girl said that Toaster 4000's
definately shipped to dealers on friday.
Also hopefully u/g's to current systems will be shipping next week.:^)
Prices haven't been set.

Word has it that the toaster 4000 will work in the older machines but will not
have any of the AGA features, can you confirm or deny this ? Also, I think
someone mentioned that in order to use lightwave 3.0 you had to have AGA, is
this also the case ? I hope not…
My dealer indicates that I will have my toaster on Thursday pm, I haven't
received my 4000 yet, so I hope it will work in the 2000 for a week or two….
Toaster4000 will work in 2000s, 3000s and 4000s, but you will only be able to
take advantage of AGA features (full-color transitions, anim preview) on AGA
machines. Whne installed on a 2000, e.g. the Switcher will have grids A-G, as
opposed to A-I on the AGA systems. LightWave 3/0 will work on all systems,
butwithout anim preview or the extra interface bitplane.
Thanks for the info, that's a load off !
I have never used lightwave, what does the extra bitplane do ?
I talked to a guy in California who actually GOT his new Toaster today! Had it
in hand…

Geez… There are two people here in Kansas City that managed to get thiers on
Monday as well, they paid overnite FEDEX to get them. I have heard it said that
there is no enthusiasm left in the Amiga marketplace… Yet everytime a new
product arrives there is a huge feeding frenzy!
I've still got my bib on!!!
🙂
BTW: Have you received my chack for the tape yet ? I called the bank and it
has not cleared yet, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't left out!
No, haven't received it yet, but I'm sure it'll be here soon………
Sysop of Trade N Post also got his Toaster 4000 yesterday.
I think the Toaster 4000 will work in an A2000 with the right s/w (3.0).
No Alpha channel type features and probably lots more missing. On the
phone, initially the girl said that LW wouldn't work without the AGA
chips!!!! But actually only a few features of LW 3.0 won't work.
Wheew!!!
Heard the T4000 s/w will be shipping on about 50 HD floppies
compressed I'm sure. It will take all day to load.
I'm gonna start getting VERY jealous soon, But I'm going to wait for
the double u/g and will install my current Toaster in a friends edit
bay.
>I think the Toaster 4000 will work in an A2000 with the right s/w (3.0).
The VT4000 WILL work on ANY A2000/A3000/A4000. On installation it will
automaticly decide which software to install, depending on whether it is
AGA or not.
>No Alpha channel type features and probably lots more missing.
Alpha Channel DOES work in a A2000/VT4000. The thing that WON'T work are
the Real-Time playback of anims and ColorWipes.
<<< Tony D. Tracer >>>
Will the s/w that is currently shipping work after installed in an A2000?
So all the Alpha channel and keying features of the VT4000 will work in
a 2000 system? Great to here. I can live without anims and wipes from
the toaster, can do that other ways.
How will my old Toaster 2.0 perform with the new s/w ? I think thats the
big un-answered question. ALOT of people will be going for the double u/g
like me and selling (or giving away at these prices) current 2.0 systems
after u/g as far as possible.
Ya know, a year from now there will probably be atleast twice as many
Toasters in operation as now. This has gotta be good for CBM especially at
2 1/2 bucks a share!!!!!!!! I think its time to BUY……….

Those Wankers!
I talked to NewTek sales today and they gave me the usual:
"It'll be shipping next week. . . ."
Who did you talk to? (I want names! :^)
Thanks,
Erik Flom
On Fidonet Mark Randall said they shipped 1000 units FRIDAY.
YAY! (Too bad they haven't even bothered to take my order! The swine!)
I'll be happy when they at least offer to charge my credit card. :^)

Good Luck young Jedi.
I called Newtek at 913-231-0100 and they answered the phone very
nicely Got this number from the T4000 brochure from NAB. Didn't get
any names but she was very willing to talk.
How are we to learn if everything is secret 🙂
Can you upload Erik's words of wisdom?

Paul,
Here's Erik's reply to my questions.
<1. Backlighting is something I haven't worked on too much, but I can
assure you that the luminous surface only appears luminous. It doesn't
actually radiate light, unless they've changed that in 3.0?>
<2. I think that was done by just applying a greyscale ramp as a
tranparency map for the sides of the 3-D lettering. This was rendered with
a matching Alpha channel that controls the fade over the live video during
playback as an effect. Probably just one object, but I only saw that
effect once.>
<3. This was described in an early Video Toaster User by James Hebert I
believe. The trick is to parent everything (Lights, Camera, Objects) to a
NullObject at 0,0,0. Then, as you rotate this point, all the objects will
move, and the reflection map will move correspondingly. They claim to have
used this technique for the T 2.0 brushed chrome gleam on their Toaster
2.0 Demo Reel.>
