#program startup problem

I am not sure what is going on, but when I try to start either ani pro
or ani pro 1.3, my computer just stays at the prompt and the cursor
flashes while nothing happens on the harddisk light side.
Sometimes, if I am lucky, the program pops up, either in 320 x 200 or
640 x 480, I haven't figured out why it does which, or what makes it
wake up.
I have previously run the last version of Ani Pro without
difficulty, including the full tutorial (which involved my using a
different video driver, TLivesa, for my Tseng 4000 based video
card.) When it stopped working is beyond me, since I have been
primarily using 3D studio, Aldus Photostyler, etc.
To the best of my knowledge I have not changed anything directly
involving Animator Pro. I tried installing version 1.3 into a
different directory, ani2, since I figured maybe something had gone
wrong with the first version —-same problem.
To list all the possibilities would be exhausting for everyone, just
wondering if any of the following changes made since I first ran
AniPro are known offenders:
1. Norton Utilities 2. Central Point antivirus 3. Pro Audio
Spectrum 16 audio board 4. Colorado tape backup 5. Toshiba 3401
external CD ROM, SCSI
If it is nothing obvious, I think I'll just do without since I have
had more than my share of grief trying to get programs to run
peaceably together on my system. I am anxious to actually do some
graphics work–what a concept! No program has had the nerve to do
what Ani Pro does however.
Sounds like you have a memory conflice between your garphics card and
something else in the system. Try these things, in order, and let us
know what happens:
1) Remove aa.cfg and run.
2) Remove both Autoexec.bat and config.sys and run.
3) Remove all extraneous boards in your computer and run.
If 2) or 3) fixes it, just start adding the lines (or boards) back in one at
a time until you find the offending one, then work with that to change
addresses, etc.

I have the same problem and almost the same hardware…A MV PAS 16 and
NEC Double Speed CD-ROM on a vl bus 486/50… If I run AAPro a single
character flashes on the screen and then the system locks up! There
must be a bug release or list of proceedures to follow to fix the
problem. I've even replaced the video card and unplugged the MV card
with no luck. Let me know if you get an answer. I'm going to attempt
to call Adesk to see what kind of tech support they offer…
i have the same setup almost. a pas 16 and a double speed nec and i have no
problem running ani pro at all. its running on a 486/66 local bus mother board
with qemm v6 installed and address b7ff-bfff excluded for windows to run with
qemm. if you like you can call me at 805

It sounds like you have a memory conflict with one of the drivers or
something that has been loaded since it worked. Boot up with a clean
config.sys and Autoexec.bat (That means don't load any drivers,
TSR's, or anything) and try starting the program in VGA 320×200 mode.
You will need to delete the aa.cfg to do this. If it works, start
adding the lines back one at a time to find the culprit.
If it doesn't work, it might be a hardware conflict. You might have to
start removing boards like the SCSI board or sound card and see if
that is the problem, and if it is, re-install it using different
addresses.
I'm not sure if your Anti Virus is loaded in memory or not, but I would hazard
a guess that is the problem. I was using norton antivirus at boot up and
couldn't get a piece of software running (can't remember what it was). But as
soon as I removed the anti virus program it worked fine.
Try it and let us know.
