Greets to all! I've got a really big problem here and perhaps someone more versed in AMiga error codes can help me out. I have an A2000 with a progressive 040/33 mhz with the full 64 meg of ram, a icd trifecta ide/scsi controller with 6 megs of ram, megachip 2000, 1 512 meg fujitsu ide hard drive, 1 105meg sysquest ide, and one 1.2 gig scsi drive and 1 88meg sysquest, and a new toaster. I spent most of this weekend working on a animation project, building models and such… the entire imagine project is probably about 20 megs, with several 1 and 2 meg objects and a 4 meg object. I can load the entire scene in just fine and manipluate things, but when I try to render it I get an error message, ERROR: 8000 0004 Task: 08080A80 Does anyone know what this is or how I get rid of it ??? My machine is pretty useless as long as this continues…. Help!

James, I have developed the exact same problem on my A2000, Progressive 040/28 with 16 megs, GVP Series II scsi controller. I get the problem only when rendering in Real 3D. I did not have trouble with this hardware set up for over a year until now. Tell me, what software package are you using? I temporarily fixed the problem by rendering to RAM:. There seems to be a problem when accessing my hard drive. I think I have the latest ROMs in the GVP board. I have tried different setpatches and 68040 libraries and I haven't licked it yet. Rendering to RAM: may be an option for you. John

Hmmm… perhaps it is a problem in the PPI040 library. I have tried several setpatch versions, it seems that there is some problem looking out at the scsi controller. And, I think I posted wrong, I have the Progressive Zeus 040/33 mhz with the 64 meg. I thought that perhaps the Zeus scsi controller was the culprit but it has a different id than all my other scsi devices. I am now convinced that it must be a problem with progressive's software…

wich version of 68040.library do you have ??? Unless you have a version > 37.10 the data transfer DMA between RAM and HD can be seriously bad. Look for a SetPatch 40.2 and 68040.library 37.30 (you can find it in the set040 archive from nick wilson.

Thanks Massimo, I will look or it right away… I hope it's on CIS, any direction on where I might find the thing ?

James: Have you tried disabling the various caches (Data, Inst, & Copyback)? Try disabling them all. If the prolem goes away, you know it's one of those three settings. (This fixes alot of stuff on the Mac, so it might also work on the Amiga.) Erik Flom

Thanks Erik, I tried all of the possible cache combinations and I still get the problem this only began recently… I'm really frustrated and lost on this one. BTW: I received my copy of the compilation video today! It is very good and there is some impressive stuff on it. I really enjoyed your work. That arcade sequence was HOT!!! You had me running to my machine to get back to work…. only to have it guru on me… 🙂

Hmmmm, I had the 80..04 guru alot until I removed one of my old background programs. (Oh yeah, it was an old sound player used to do a startup-sound) Once I got rid of that, my problems went away. But, I think your problem is more closely related to the software. Since I don't have Imagine, I'm not much use, am I? :^) Thanks for the kudos on the tape! There was some nice stuff on it. My section could have done w/o the sequence of stills showing LW3.0 effects, but at least the arcade section made up for it. :^) I just wish I had your hardware! I'm STILL waiting to ORDER my T4000 upgrade. (SOB!) Erik Flom

Well, last night I used ICP + and converted my imagine objects over to Lightwave and gave it a shot there and sure enough the same darn problem occured! So I am just about 100% certain that something with the progressive or icd drivers is going afoul! I even tried to render to ram: and got the same error message! This is very puzzling…. So I may have the toaster 4000 but it's pretty useless to me right now…

Sorry to hear that. Could it be the Toaster causing problems? BTW, I used ICP+ to convert Carme Rizzolo's Enterprise object to LW, and it came out looking beautiful. (Anyone want to buy a copy of Pixel3D 'Pro'? Cheap! :^) Good Luck, Erik Flom

I gotta agree with you on that! ICP + is ten times better than pixel 3d pro at conversions. I have to thank John for getting me a copy of it in one day! Saturday delivery no less! Too bad I can't do anything with the great models it creates…. 🙂

Hey, I'll take that T4000 off your hands? I mean if it's just serving to frustrate you, I'd hate to see you continue suffering….:^) Erik Flom

You know…. I hate to say it but if that 4000 doesn't get here soon I may just get rid of this whole system!!! I've got a new PAR board that I haven't done a thing with yet, since I don't have the drive, and a new toaster that I can't use since I get these funny guru errors!!!! I went ahead and ordered the 2.1 operating system today, I don't know if it will help or not but what the heck… When is the next animation tape ??? Maybe by then I'll have something working!!! 🙂
#105997From: Erik FlomJul 3, 1993 7:47 PM
Well, good luck getting your system running! (Though you won't get much sympathy from me. You have BOTH a T4000 AND a PAR?!? I'm Jealous! :^) I don't know when the next animation tape will be compiled, but six months sounds like a good number to start with. Erik Flom

What exactly was the arcade scene created for ? Is this for a customer or for your next great adventure ? And how on earth did you manage to do that underwater scene ??? I got seasick just looking at it…. 🙂
#105575From: Erik FlomJun 30, 1993 12:27 PM
The arcade sequence is the intro to the 'arcade' in an interactive cable system that is being developed by ICTV in San Jose, CA. (They have some _very_ interesting plans.) That underwater scene was done almost a year ago. There are a numer of glitches, the worst being that the sub ripples were attached to the sub, not the World Coords, so the texturing on the sub is kinda screwed. (It looked much better before I 'improved' it. :^) Thanks! Erik Flom
