#Driver for CDU-535???

I didn't get a reply re: my earlier message so I'll rephrase and be more direct this time. I have a Sony CDU-535 internal drive with a Sony adapter and no SCSI. I also have a Media Vision PAS 16. I tried the 31A NT driver and it doesn't work with my drive. Is the 31A driver suitable for my CDU-535, or should I wait for a proper driver for CDU-535? Or is there something else I need to do during the setup of the 31A driver? Would appreciate a response. Thanks James

James, Wayne has been shuttling back and forth between our office and Redmond the past few weeks, so he's either misplaced your message or he missed it completely. Since he's currently out of the office for a while, I'll answer for him. The 31A driver will not work with your CDU-535; the 31A and the 535 are completely different at the interface level. Sony doesn't have any current plans to develop an NT driver for the CDU-535, at least as far as anyone I've talked to knows. I know that at one time Microsoft was looking at doing the driver themselves (in fact they were also going to do one for the 31A), but I think they've backed away from that for now. Sorry to respond with bad news, but I figured you'd rather hear it now than later. Chuck Roman

Chuck, I don't know if you are with Sony or not but if you are, please pass my comment on to anyone that might care. I've been very disapointed with my 535i purchase. I didn't find out how non-standard the 535i was until it was to late. If they don't provide NT support and I have to purchase another drive I will never buy another Sony product. Although, I have been very happy with my other Sony equipment (the reason I chose Sony in the first place) I won't do business with a company which shows so little concern for their customers. They won't even state their intent. This has been a very disappointing experience.

Chuck, I have to say that I agree with Bill. Sony has been VERY uncooperative and uninformative since I got stuck with my CDU535. But, since you and Wayne have been trying to be so helpful I'll re-ask a question which has NEVER been answered for me… If Sony is declining to support the CDU535 under NT, can we get the technical specifications so that WE can develop the driver ourselves? The fact that Sony is refusing to support the drive nullifies any arguments concerning proprietary information anyways… Merrick

Merrick, I'll forward your question to the technical support people in San Jose. Chuck
