Ayone out ther experienced problems with the Mitsumi drive and some CD-ROMS ?
I have a LU005 and it cannot run enhanced battle chess. It refuses to even do a
driecctory, the drive just "hangs" when accessing the software. I ended up
returning the software to the shop where I purchased it and explaining the
problem to them (they thought I was pulling a fast one … until they tried it
on their Mitsumi).
Peter — Sure, my Mitsumi will not read the Wizardware 6-Pack sampler. Mitsumi
knows this, and says that using IRQ 3 solves the problem — well, not here,
folks. Funny problem, as CD utilities will do a directory listing, and can
identify the drive vol.#, etc — but an attempt to read will cause a hang every
time. Sigh. (note that the old Mitsumi did not have this problem).

I could not read two of my disks on my Mitsumi, while they were perfectly
readable on other drives. After lots (and I mean LOTS) of checking I found that
the problem was mechanical. If the disk is slightly misaligned, the Mitsumis
mechanics can't read it. One of the disks was readable for a few minutes while
the PC was warming up (after it was switched off for a few hours).
Try to have your dealer replace the CD with another CD with the same contents.
I would bet that it will be readable then.

A while back, I read something in this forum about CD-ROM drives automatically
re-aligning themselves after they warmed up. It sounds like this may be
happening to you, or may *not* be happening when it needs to. Consequently,
replacing the CD-ROM disc may not cure the problem. Can someone else with
knowledge about this re-alignment process jump in and perhaps guide Boris on
this matter?

I am not the guy with the original problem. I described a similar problem and
how I solved it (first: getting new discs. Later: getting mechanically better
drive).
I appreciate your concern though!
So please DONT help me. Help the poor guy who started this thread.

I tried the disc on several different mitsumi drives in the shop where I got
the software and no dice, the salesman of the software looked as though he
wanted to curl up and die at the thought of a refund.
Uh oh. Which disc is it? I have access to just about everything and will try it
on a Mitsumi over here. I need the complete name and if possible the serial
code (which is around the hole of the CD etched into the silver before the
actual data starts. Most often labels manufacturer and serial number.)

I had real problems with Enhanced Battle Chess (MPC edition).. SO much so that
I returned it to a shop and got a copy of "The animals" … This appears OK
appart from occasional jerky motion video.
I was instructed by the supplier of my driev to remove any TSR's ….. enmpty
machine … no dice.
The Animals video pictures are naff on the mitsumi … jerky and losses sound.
On the SCSI connected SONY at my work all is OK.
Peter — You really do have some problems — try software polling first, as
your computer may not be haoppy with DMA's. How much memory to do have? — How
many buffers are you allocating to CD-ROM drivers? Could you list out your
config.sys and autoexec.bat files? — the drive should NOT be working as you
describe.

I have a 486 (50 MHz), DMA & IRQ appear OK, I have disconnected my sound board
and still got problems.
Maybe the mItsumi is incompatible with my machine … Then again lots of other
discs work OK.
Peter — Did you try software polling? If not, please do so as that will "fix"
IRQ conflict problems.

I will change my PC to software polling as soon as I get time …
currently I am on an introduction to Unix course at my work (though God knows
why).
